I was wondering how often I should replace my eclectus' boing rope? She sleeps on the very top every night, so the bottom section gets very pooped on! It's made of thick sisal rope. She's been using it for just over a month.

I don't have a dishwasher or a washing machine, so I have just been using apple cider vinegar and bottled water, plus a steam cleaner with deionised water and a sponge.

It is now stained on the bottom section (purple and green - presumably from beetroot, blueberry and greens). Does that mean it's time to replace it?

Please advise,

What you are using should at least keep it clean, just not getting the stains out.

I understand that your Ekkie has gotten use to its a position. That said, if you can shift the base out of the line of the droppings that would make your work a little easier.

Next time you clean it, try drying it in direct Sunlight (outside). Will likely not get the stains out, but may lighten them.

With the exception of the stains, the Boing Rope is still functional.

OK, thanks for the reassurance. I was just worried that the stains would mean it was too dirty! I will try to see if I can reshape the bottom of the boing to avoid the poops in future. It's quite strong, as I think it was designed for a macaw, so I might have to seek some muscle for assistance!
Thanks again

Stained is fine, so long as it's being cleaned regularly (which it sounds like it is:)). Kiwi has had a few of his rope perches since we got him, almost 8 years ago. Kinda dingy looking from wear and repeated scrubbing, but not frayed and no need to replace. Rope perches really only need to be replaced when they begin fraying excessively, as it can become a hazard to the bird.

Wow - Probably plenty of life left in this rope yet then!
Though, as her diet it nearly completely vegetables and fruit, it might not last quite so long if she keeps pooping on it all the time! :D
Thanks for the info, very much appreciated
