How to hang stuff from perches?

My beautiful and hilarious little parakeet, Strat, (short for the Stratacaster guitar, since he loved rock music) passed away a few months ago, after 7 years of fun and craziness. Just got an IRN!
Hello!
My Indian Ringneck has a pretty tall home, and I'm trying to better utilize the space inside for toys. (He still isn't tame enough that I feel safe letting him out. Hopefully this weekend will be the one!)
How do you safely attach toys to the bottom of perches so they hang down into the lower areas? I was thinking small zip ties, but seems like there are a couple of issues with that- 1) Sharp edge left from cutting the excess from the zip tie. 2) I've seen foraging videos where IRN's can chew right thru those. lol
I was thinking of screwing in a hook or something, but that just seems like potentially dangerous.
Thoughts/suggestions?
Thanks in advance for any and all help! I appreciate it!!

Actually, you don't. Don't hang things from perches because that's how you get toys full of poop :(

Instead, lower the perches and hang toys from the top and sides of the cage.

Ahhhh! The poop logic! Thanks! Darn.. there's so much vertical space. I didn't consider the falling poop.

That's why I hate those tall cages; such a poor design for a parrot but soooo popular!

SilverSage, Someone mentioned that you might be a good person to ask about this. Curious if you could please take a quick look at my introduction post and see how old you think my IRN might be? It's in the new member welcome forum, called "new forum member with an Indian Ringneck on the way". Photos are on the third page. Thanks a ton! :D

agreed. The height of my cage is good at keeping them comfy and moving vertically but having to remove all the perches when cleaning is annoying. Would much prefer a long cage now that I've moved around my furniture

It's kind of hard to tell from this face on picture but every perch is at a diagonal to another to keep poop from hitting a toy or perch as best it can.

The dark tree branch perch goes from the back left to the front right, the two that came with the cage (bottom two) have like 6 inches difference between them. And the one that's supposed to hold the top door, (NEVER USE THAT! those are accidents waiting to happen!) it's in a top right corner where he likes it most. And the "nail buffing" perch is at the very top (mostly obscured). Also I've since removed the tent he didn't like it and never used it.

On a side note that basketball thing in the top right, I recommend that, I have watched him play with it and when I come home I see the ball in a different area, in or out of the basket all the time.

nice little condo there for Clark!

I love his little "shed" nearer the bottom! I've seen that basketball toy so many times and was tempted but it was for sale at "pets at home" like an English petsmart, just cheaper and slightly worse so I stayed away from it. I only ever bought a singular perch from there

I've seen him in it, but he prefers his corner...well he prefers everything on the right side of the cage, sometimes he will lift weights by his water bowl. I'll probably remove the shed just because changing the cardboard top can be a pain, I figured he'd like a secure birdhouse kind of thing but he seems to think the bars are enough so he perches up in the top right to sleep.

I almost bought one of those "convertible top" cages. Now I'm glad I didn't!
I too have seen the basket ball toy, but have been leery of it. I don't know how to tell if the metal they use on toys is safe, ie Stainless Steel. I've purchased a few toys that I've pulled the metal chains out and replaced them with sisal rope.
I'm also thinking I should steer clear of mirrors until my little buddy and I have bonded more. I want him or her to think of me as its flock. :) But eventually, some mirrored stuff would be good.

The mirror is not really an issue, at first they may think it's another bird as a chick, but then they loose interest because they figure it out, they aren't dumb. My bird uses it because he's vain, and likes to pose at himself, check himself out. But he realizes the bird is him and the human is me.

Ah. My little parakeet used to love his mirrors. He'd sing to and play with his mirrors all the time. I used to like to say he was singing for and flirting with the beautiful bird he saw in the mirrors, but maybe he too understood and was just really fond of himself. lol

A Budgie might.... I don't know, they are smart, but you said you owned an Indian Ringneck, he will figure it out. Larger birds.....I don't want to say anything that someone might misinterpret. We all saw the cool video the other day of the budgie that made like every parrot look like a hampster.

birds don't differentiate really, there's a part of our brain that allows us to understand mirrors that birds don't have. my step-dad had a Kakariki who was bonded to the mirror deeply. Saying that the mirror on those basketball nets aren't exactly the best so that may be enough for them not to interpret another bird.

There's a funny experiment that scientists did around this, essentially they put a sleeping animal in front of a mirror and put a dot in their head, if the animal touched the dot or at least acknowledged it on themselves then they could understand a mirror. Only one bird in the experiment acknowledged the dot and it was a crow which are dangerously smart.

rio didn't like the mirror bird, or as he was dubbed "evil rio"

Maybe it's because I'm in the mirror too? My conure seems to realize...he used to be all attack or chirp when he was young, now he looks in the mirror and preens himself and checks himself out, I may be wrong but it seems to me he realizes the mirror is just a mirror. And is like meh I can take it or leave it.
