one Kakariki
Hi,

I have a kakariki and he's been biting hard lately. I am wondering if his cage is part of the problem - maybe he's over or under stimulated... Would anyone be willing to post pictures of their bird's cage(s) so I can get some ideas of how to lay out his toys and how many toys other people are using?

Thanks,

Toy preferences are so individual! I'd suggest trying all kinds of layouts and all kinds of toys for that matter. I'll defer on cage size for now... we have some kakariki folks here who will probably drop by.

As for biting, I suspect the cage and toys have less impact than socializing, consequences, avoiding stuff that upsets the bird, etc. Since you've obviously done some reading here, you've probably run across it already, and so I won't do my usual spiel on it, unless you ask.

Good for you, for reaching out and being open-minded!

Rafiki is a lucky bird!

Try putting the toys in the corners of the cage see if that helps and around 4 toys is usually plenty including a foraging toy. Cages can be set up any way you like really. Add a perch near favourite toys too.

The biting needs to be trained out of the bird also. Try putting him in his cage for 10 mins if he bites every time he does as a negative reinforcement x
