Ok so trying to figure something out for Misty I had this grand Idea about building a flight cage outside so the smell won't bother me but I can still take care of her. She can be outside and lay all the eggs she wants! I'm thinkng about 4X4X5 cage and another question I would like to get her a friend for outside but I don't want baby cockatiels I mean that might be ok if they would raise them I was wondering if a parakeet or two would work? I wouldn't want anything with a bigger beak than that I know a cockatiel would be best just wanted an opinion

Okay, that sounds like a wonderful idea. In my large flight cage I have a real mixture, cockatiels Rosellas, Linnies, Bourkes, and the Red Rump but they all tend to stick with their own species, they all get on great but don't really take that much notice of each other. I've seen large aviarys with Cockatiels and Budgies in together. If you wanted a friend that she will hang out with I think its probably gonna have to be another cockatiel, and the only way out of that is to get it sexed before you get it. Some places here have the male and female birds in seperate cages, but things happen, Gemini was in the female cage and I know for a fact he is definately a he. :D

If you want a bird as someone who is just happy to be in the same flight as her, but not necessarily together then most of the parakeet should be fine. I've found that the Rosellas can get a bit bossy sometimes, but that may just be mine. :D Let us know what you decide.

ok thanks I might stick with a cockatiel if they have babies fine i know cockatiels are so much calmer than most species I think she would LOVE a mate let me get this right the parents can pretty much take care of the babies as long as I keep an eye on them?

Are they going to be flighted?

Yes they would do most of the work themselves, you would need to keep an eye on them just in case, but they should be fine.

Maximum 4 birds, You need enough space for the birds to get out of the way of each other, when the arguments start,

Oh Kelli, that is such a shame, I'm so sorry. I'm sure that you'll do whatever is best for Misty.

great news! I found a bird rescue just 40 miles away see I didn't want to dump her on someone who would just try to find her a new home cuz I know that wouldn't be best for her but the lady emailed and said they had a number of cockatiels and I could bring her over and see if she liked it there! So I'm trying to decide everything it looks like she is going to lay again today she has stopped sitting on the plastic eggs and started a new clutch of real eggs :( poor girl does anybody have any suggestions like what you would do nothing will ofend me I just want personal opinions thanks

I wish I could tell you what to do, but I'm afraid that nobody can tell you that.

I would have to think very carefully and then decide what was best for my fid. Its a hard choice either way, Would she be happier staying as she is or would she be happier somewhere else that could offer her mates and other tiels.???????????

I do wish you all the best and I know you'll decide whatever is best for Misty. Just remember no one is gonna judge you for doing what is right for her.

Thanks Peta that means alot I don't want people thinking I'm just getting rid of the problem I want to do what's best for her even if not what's convenient for me this place is really great they take in special needs birds http://exoticbirdrescue.homestead.com/aboutus.html they seem really nice I don't want to be irresponsible but right now she jsut sits in her cage ahsn't been out of except to be toweled in weeks and she just sits in the corner laying eggs

Kelli that looks like an amazing place, and believe me I'm really fussy. :D Those people are amazing and the place they have is truly awesome.

Let us know what you decide, I'm sure that you'll make the right decision for Misty. Good Luck to you on this.
