What size sleep cage for a Double Yellow Headed Amazon?

DYH Amazons, as with all Parrots that have a sleeping cage have like needs. The cage needs to have enough room for the Parrot to fully extend its wings (left and right, and up). Also, like a standard cage an area for food and water. Regarding roosting perches. The primary roosting perch should be a larger diameter than the preferred day time perch. All perches need to be natural wood branch style perches. Location should be away from a window or doorway in an area of limited too and better no drafts.

Covers for larger cages are a pain to put on and remove. Everyone has their preference, but we have always preferred non-tailored covers that can be removed quickly or fully adjusted based on the specific needs of your Parrot. It is not uncommon to have a thicker Winter cover and a thinner Summer cover. Color based on known likes and dislikes of your parrot.

Our DYH Amazon (Julio) has a sleeping cage, which is 1/3 smaller than than his day time cage. (It is important to understand that other than food, water and some personal time, he really doesn't use them beyond perching, climbing and eating.) Some individuals will select a sleeping cage that can also act as a travel cage.

His sleeping cage is 23" deep x 36" wide x 68" tall (585 mm deep x 915 mm wide x 1730 mm tall). Remember that the most important size is the depth! This measurement for larger Amazons should be able to pass though the sleeping room doorway and out of your home /apartment without disassemble (think emergency (like a fire)).

My standard for a larger Amazon is 32" depth for their activity daytime cage.

Measurements do not include a seed catcher.
