Sunny the Sun Conure (sept '18, gotcha 3/'19). Mr Jefferson Budgie & Mrs Calliope Budgie (albino) (nov'18 & jan'19). Summer 2021 Baby Budgies: Riker (Green); Patchouli, Keye, & Tiny (blue greywings).
Here are my Conure's and my Budgies' matching cages. So Far, they're plenty spacious enough for everyone.

I first got the cage with platforms for Sunny due to her balance problem, caused by a bum claw. She likes to live in the top, and likes to sleep up high. She still doesn't fly yet and this way if she falls (which does happen although more rarely now), it's not so far down.

Eventually I will make a sign to hang over Sunny's cage, saying "Styles By Birdie." She loves when I lean in to her cage so she can beautician my hair.

The budgies' cage is the same kind. They don't exactly NEED the platforms & ladders, but they sure do make use of them, every inch. They have much less interest in exiting this cage than their previous, smaller one, and they often fly-jump up or down thru the interior open-area

I had to photo their cage at night because, in front of the window, the budgies are so small the camera couldn't light-balance them; either the budgies disappeared, or else the cage.

Sunny likes to go to sleep an hour before sunset. She wakes up & says "Hi" when I get home, and then demands a full light-blocking cover to go back to sleep. (Her cover is actually slightly sheer, so I have to layer blankets atop it.)

The budgies, on the other hand, like to stay up all night. They do Not want the front of their cage entirely covered. They - or at least, Jefferson - want to supervise my television-watching. If I am watching something non-approved (basically, anything with a plot) they will do whatever it takes to get me to stop. Chirping, agitation, night-frights, fights... whatever makes me pause or better yet turn Off the show.

The budgies used to let me cover them at night, until I started covering them earlier so I could watch TV. Eventually they figured out my ploy, and their hidden sounds became quite alarming once they realized I might be watching someone on TV experience stress, drama, action, or any unhappy emotion.

So, now they sleep happily with the front of their cage open, while I watch "Curiosity Stream" and "The Great Courses" to relax. Hey, at least my brain won't rot, right?

I got the cages on Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/LAZY-BUDDY-W...9796&s=gateway&sprefix=lazy+buddy+bird&sr=8-1

The stand part of Sunny's cage was a bit wobbly, and SHE sometimes wants to accompany me withOUT leaving the cage. ( She watched me assemble it, with help from the landlord, in the kitchen, and then I rolled her thru to the living room. I saw her delight as she figured she could stay joined at my hip and yet never again leave her cage unless SHE wanted to. Well, that did not happen.) I did eventually disassemble the stand part of Sunny's cage & replaced with a Home Depot utility cart. Some times I bring her whole cage to another room, so she can watch me unload dishwasher or put away folded clothes for her amusement.

The budgies' cage uses the built-in stand it came with. There's a tiny bit of wobble, but, I don't move their cage around much, so it's okay.

On the whole I think they are all quite happy with their cages for now.

The. food dishes in their cage are just the right size for a cute little budgie to curl up IN and enjoy a nice bite of breakfast.

So although their cages were the same Type, there was one big difference. The cage I originally got for Sunny was "Hammertone" finish. When I got the same cage for the budgies they no longer had that option, only black.

When it arrived, and up until at least a couple weeks ago, it had a Few, Tiny rust spots where the paint had flaked off. Few. Tiny. and all on the Outside Only.

Well, somebudgie must have found one of those spots. And went to work on it. Definitely less than two weeks ago. Now there are large patches of bare, rust-colored metal on the outside And Inside of the top of the cage.

(Especially troubling, I have Not noticed any paint flakes when cleaning up around the cage!)

So, this weekend I did what I should've done when I first got the second cage. I went to Petco and got the "You And Me" "Standing Parrot Cage" instead, which I had been eyeing for a while. I had intended all along to upgrade Sunny's cage to this one, but, I was hoping to put it off another 6 months, or maybe even another year. The inside of this cage is 30x30x43, and it has a whole playtop thing on top.

The budgies are in Sunny's ex-cage now, with the hammertone finish. I thought they'd be happy, (especially Jefferson, who's always trying to get into or onto Sunny's cage)ut now that it's no longer Sunny's they could care less & are just miffed by the changes.

And right now Sunny is in... the budgies' little original cage. Prevue Hendrix 14x18x22 Starter Kit (& now secondary backup) Cage. When I tried to cover the new, big cage for sleep, she seemed rather spooked by the cavernous area. Granted, it was well past her chosen bedtime (appx an hour Before dark) while I was still working to arrange her new space. So I put the tiny covered cage next to the giant covered cage and let her choose. She chose tiny-but-familiar.

Im hoping she will come to love her new cage. I still haven't fully arranged it all quite yet, but the plan is perches & toys all around the interior sides, so she can climb all around, but with open space in the middle for stretching her beautiful new wings. Im thinking (hoping!) that she might come to love this new cage.
