Sleeping Cage Support

Hey y’all. Gathering information for when birb comes home!

I’m getting the Prevue cage for my conure. But I’d like to have a sleep cage, too. So, do birds usually take to the sleep cage easily? Or does it take a while to get them use to it?

Should I expose him to it throughout the day so it’s not another new space?

Leave him in his main cage for a couple weeks, then introduce the sleeper once he’s used to our home?

What should go in it?

I know it will be better in the long run as my bedroom is WAY quieter than the living room at night (we’re in an apartment & our dishwasher, which we usually run at night, is LOUD and next to the living room.)

My opinion only - I would put the sleep cage next to the day cage for a few days. Let him explore it freely and get used to it so that it’s not new or scary. I’d probably let him sleep in the main cage for a bit, to get used to the household noises, people and activities. How long? I’d base it on how comfortable he seems in the environment. There could also be some merit to starting him in the sleep cage after just a few days, so that it becomes part of the routine right away. I tend to make decisions based on observing my birds’ demeanour and behaviour and they’ve all been pretty unique so far. I don’t have sleep cages (have 6 birds and my bedroom would get very crowded lol), so hopefully someone will chime in that uses them

Thank you! I’m sure anything I learn now will be totally shifted once he’s home, but I also feel like the more I know the more prepared I can be with some basic guidelines so everything can go as smooth as possible.

I really appreciate your input, that sounds like a great way of doing things. 6 would be A LOT in your bedroom, lol!

Don't know if my experience will help any - but -
When I first got my Budgies I also bought this cage:

I upgraded them fairly quickly, so when I brought home my Conure that became her cage. (The package said it was okay for a conure, right?

)

Before I brought home Sunny, I had already traveled with the Budgies in that cage.

Anyway I then upgraded Sunny's cage (and re-upgraded the budgies... and then re-upgraded Sunny's cage... I may have made a post or two about it on here...). Then end result is Sunny has Giant cage she lives in but she prefers to sleep in her original cage, the PH 91321. (it's 18x14x22H inches.)

So basically when she came home, at the beginning she started off living in the smaller cage first, and Then got a bigger cage for a "Day" cage.

One of the benefits of a smaller sleep cage, IF you need to travel (like by car) & stay over somewhere, it can be transportable and can be her visiting cage.

When I take Sunny anywhere I actually use this carrier:

-- Which is a Really Great product, by the way and I highly recommend it, Sunny loves to go out in it. We go for car rides, out for walks, to the farmers' marketk (when life is normal of course, Not now!) and she loves it And it's very secure and easy too. --

but, if we stay over anywhere then I also bring along the PH 18x14x22 for her living & sleeping cage while we're there. It works really well and she is very happy that way.

Thank you! That looks great. I will maybe try it this way, it sounds like a great way to make the association with the sleep cage being a safe comfortable space!
