Re: How do you guys clean your cage ?

1. Roll the cage outside.
2. Remove the litter tray, dump it, spray Simple Green on it, and let it soak off to the side.
3. Using the garden hose, blast the nasty stuff off the bottom grate and cage sides.
4. Switch the spray pattern to shower and give the bird a good wash-down.
5. Leave the hose nozzle propped in a spot where the bird can move in and out of the spray as desired for 10-15 mins.
6. Blast the stuff that didn't come off in step 3.
7. Scrub the stuff that didn't come off in steps 3 & 6.
8. Scrub and rinse the litter tray from step 2.
9. Replace the litter tray and bring the cage inside when the bird is finished having fun.

Pretty simple, unless you live in a cold place, in which case...why do you have a tropical bird in that climate?!?

Re: How do you guys clean your cage ?

Pressure washer is definitely my favourite tool for doing thorough cleaning of cages. If it fits through the doorway and can be lifted by two people, then I take care of them outside. I have 2 cages that are too large to move - I just take the bottom grates out of those ones outside for cleaning and steam clean the rest of the cage in the house. I bought a new pressure washer just for bird cages lol. I generally soak mine down with water, spray with F10 disinfectant and then pressure wash the mess away. The steam cleaner is my second favourite tool

Re: How do you guys clean your cage ?

I would second the use of the non-rinse (yellowish variety) of f10 SC disinfectant after power washing (because its efficacy decreases in the presence of organic matter and just because bacteria/mold/fungi etc could technically survive a power wash at a microscopic level. You could always rinse again if you don't want to leave the F10 (even though it's not required)--my thing is, it is going to work way better on a debris-free surface.

Unlike most other disinfectants, F10 is very safe for use around birds and on their enclosures (just needs to dry before they mess with it) and it kill WAY more germs than something like vinegar.

Re: How do you guys clean your cage ?

Nice demo! I also have a pressure washer, perhaps the most ideal solution. Stubborn stains are pre-soaked with Poop Off spray. Let sit about 10 minutes, fire up the washer, and done!

Thanks! I make them periodically, when he learns new tricks or I catch him in a particularly chatty mood.
