Hi Everyone,

Hope we're all staying well?

I'm looking for recommendations for a birdy backpack that would suit my Alexandrine.

I have a stainless steel travel cage that I use for vet visits, but it's is SO HEAVY and awkward I want to replace it.

I'm also realising that my lovely boy isn't socialized or desensitised from new things at all and this causes him a lot of stress, most recently when I went on holiday and he stayed at a pet hotel for a week and butchered his feathers while he was there. I think that if I had a backpack that was easy to transport I could start taking him out and about, introduce him to new people and reduce his fear of the unknown.

In particular if anyone has a brand they recommend I'd be very grateful.

Thank you :)

You're going to get quite a few folks recommending the PAK-O-BIRD from Caitec. Without a doubt the best one out there. I have one. THey have diff sizes for all types of parrots. They are light, extremely well made and thought out, almost infinitely adjustable for how they are attached to you or a carseat. Back pack, front pack, or hand carried. Difficult for parrots to destroy from the inside, with food and water bowls and an optional water bottle. Now the down side. They are expensive. Made in Brooklyn, NY ( I went to the factory to see mine actually made). Oh one more thing - they unzip so that they can be laid totally flat and cleaned well - thats a biggie.

Sunny the Sun Conure (sept '18, gotcha 3/'19). Mr Jefferson Budgie & Mrs Calliope Budgie (albino) (nov'18 & jan'19). Summer 2021 Baby Budgies: Riker (Green); Patchouli, Keye, & Tiny (blue greywings).
I got my carrier from Amazon. It is called Petsfit. It seems to be an Imitation of Caitec's Pak-O-Bird. Considerably Less expensive. Also considerably less options, but pretty nice anyway. I think it is large enough to carry your bird very comfortably, but of course you will want to check the measurements.

ps. I wrapped some string tightly through the top air-holes, from which to hang a spiral perch for my Sunny, it is extremely spacious for my little conure.

ps I think the bird in the pic may have been photoshopped-in; he makes the the carrier look smaller than it really is. It is very spacious! My Sun Conure looks very small inside it. She likes it a lot. The sides are fully screened. The sides and front have covers that can snap closed or be rolled back. There are backpack straps, shoulder strap, and a carrying handle. Side pockets for carrying stuff. Perch, Food Dish, and outside-attachment for water bottle.

(And if you happen to have inherited a rollator-walker, this sits on it nicely to make a great bird-stroller. ;) )
