Silicone under paper?

Kiwis cage is still in great shape after a good 6 years of use now, except the bottom is starting to develop a spot where the paper always sticks (under his favorite branch where he poops a lot) and it’s getting increasingly hard to clean because I believe the poop is starting to damage the finish.

I was thinking of getting an oversized silicone baking sheet to go under the paper to protect the tray and be easier to clean. Has anyone tried this? I swear I’ve seen others asking about this, but don’t recall what the consensus was.

FYI- Kiwi isn’t a paper shredder. I also use some (very carefully selected for safety) magnets to hold the paper in place at all 4 corners.

Silicone is a very general word for a base mix of chemicals with a very wide use.

In the mix that is used to coat a surface to provide a semi-slippery surface and be heat-resistant, this mix is generally considered safe. It is important to remember that as a group, silicone can let off 'very tiny' amount of liquid, which cause the 'non-stick' abilities of the product.

Wash well before use (standard Dawn or like dishwasher soap) dry and set paper over the sheet.

If Kiwi shows interest in it and begins to chew at it -- remove at once and halt use. The concern is the bits get caught in his digestive system.

Never paint this type of silicone!
