If two caiques don't like each other at first, will they warm up to each other over time?

I have a 7 year old male WBC and really would like to add another to my flock. what are my best options?

If I were you, I would set up a brand new cage for the newcomer, and keep them in separate cages, as there is no guarantee they will get along.

If you have a large play area, away from the cages, you could slowly introduce them to each other, ALWAYS supervised though.

Caiques are tough little cookies, and they play fight and roll around, tumbling, doing somersaults, etc. You don't want the play fighting ending up with one injured or maimed birdy. :)

I have 2 caiques.A male and female I got at different times . Their cages are next to each other. They seem to really like each other .They mirror what each other does .They sleep facing each other ,eat at the same time and play also. But having them out on a playstand .The female is very aggressive . I dont trust them together for long . I think your schedule change will affect your bird [from what hes used too ] going from celebrity status to being alone some .Is going to be a change.Im all for people having more than one bird [someone to chit chat with] just realize his life might change. Maybe you wont be able to have them out at the same time. Or if Roccos out he might be worried about bugging her through the cage. A baby he might bully and an older one he might bond with or dislike.[I would try the older one ] IMO GOOD LUCK :)

Thank you so much for your response! I think over time he would accept a companion, especially if he is home alone during the day. I wouldnt cage them together, i think they need their own homes/ spaces and i wouldn't trust them alone together. I know Rocco, has the typical jeckyl and hyde caique personality and wouldnt want to risk it.

Has anyone ever gotten another caique and had them hate each other to eventually have them get along?

The advice you have recieved is very good. Im just wondering what your definition of 'agressive' is?. I have 8 of these and they play ROUGH, and enjoy it.

They squeal, tumble and shriek, then go back for more

IrishJ9,
I posted a longer more elaborate post about my situation, under Adding a second caique, questions, questions and more questions...

Since you have 8 did you ever have where they didnt get along then warmed up to eachother over time.

Maybe i was too afraid to let them go, to see what would happen during the introduction. I dont know. But I took quite a few bites from the both of them being in the middle...

I really want to add another to my flock,

If you are holding an excited caique away from what he wants, you will take bites. Not bloody bites, just 'let me go' bites.

However introducing a mature caique to another bird is inherently risky. My 8 were introduced very early.

There is no guarantee they will ever like each other, and Rosco's view of the world is that YOU belong to HIM. For that reason he may never like the newcomer

This one you will have to play by ear.
