Caique
My white-bellied Caique, Riley is having some behavioral issues. He is currently a little over two years old. He's always been a nibbler but sometimes he gets extremely "bitey" which we are trying to train him out of. However, he'll sometimes squawk that loud pitch annoying Caique squawk repetiviely at night time. He gets ALOT of attention during the day. I was just curious if anyone had any tips on how to train him to not bite on family members and guests, and how to get him to stop squawking so much? Please help. Family members are become extreme angry and annoyed and I do not want them to start to hate him :(:confused::confused::(

You are going to struggle to do that. Caiques are extremely head strong and have their own minds.

My bird can be the nicest bird in the world... then all of a sudden he hates me, will become very vicious and does that loud squeaking you are talking about all night until he is covered up.

Aggression with these birds is part of owning a caique. Mine is around 3 years old now i think and is still the same... maybe over time they settle down a bit? I dont know. Learn to read the eyes and body language.

Handling him too much could cause issues, handling not enough could cause issues. You have to find the right amount of time and get them into a routine. If anything changed dramatically, like a lot of attention, going to a lot less, this could cause more behavioral problems with your bird.

I wish you luck in finding a happy medium. When a caique gets into angry mode (displaying and squeaking loudly at you / the family) i have found there really is nothing you can do but let it pass and let them get on with it.

I let my caiques decide what they want to do and who they want to see. IMO they seem to like 1 or 2 people the rest they need to build their relationship with them [With no pressure] Everyones right about caiques they have their own agenda. What works for me. I put them on playstands when they first come out . Then see if the want to go be with you. I have 12 birds and none of mine seemed to be thrilled with a ton of people.I think that's just how birds are .
