I guess the short answer would be: consult with your vet. For a longer-winded answer (goodness knows, I'm really good at those), here's what I do, based on consultations with Eliza and Henry's vet:

Pellets and fresh fruit are always good, of course. I also make a "chop" mix. I got this from the vet. (There's a link below that goes into more detail than the handout I got from the vet.) Anyway, the chop mix is nice because you can freeze a portion of it for later. It's basically 40%-50% grains, 10% cooked legumes or beans (which are optional) and 60% veggies.

I've used quinoa, but brown rice, kamut, spelt, farrow, and hulled barley are also listed. (Obvious point, but you want to let whatever grains you're using cool down after cooking them!)

For beans, it's just the usual soak overnight and then cook. I've used garbanzos and red beans, but pink and pinto are also mentioned. Drain 'em and let 'em cool.

For the veggies, which get chopped up in a food processor, I've used kale, broccoli, green beans and red bell peppers (all organic); additional veggies mentioned include cauliflower, snap peas, jicama, radishes, anise, hot peppers, zucchini, yellow squash, bok chou, mustard greens, Swiss chard, collared greens, carrots parsnips, brussels sprouts, and so on. Avoid veggies that have a lot of water in them, like cucumber, because the mix comes out too wet.

Anyway, mix all the veggies, grain(s), and beans up, package them, freeze some of it and so on.

I give this mixture to E&H mixed in with the pellets (and add some fresh fruit).

Oh, for the liquid portion of Tango's diet, Joel recommends sipping tequila. In my house, it's single-malt scotch. So I guess it's just a matter of preference...

So how often do you feed your 2 little fellas during the day? Do most people offer morning and night or is one or the other OK? I know for dogs some people do 2 a day, I prefer once a day... my dog won't even touch her food until night time anyhow, so it doesn't matter when I fill it lol!

Thanks for the recipe too, going to print this all out and start a new recipe binder for Tango lol! So far I have a birdy mash recipe and that new pizza recipe that was just posted the other day

Oh, and we're more of a vodka household, but I've got some Johnny blue and some Chivas royal salute 21 year just in case. If he joins me for a cigar, I have a nice 30 year Taylor's I've been saving for a special occasion lol!
