No matter what I do. Skittles will not stay on top of the cage or on the playstand. Does anyone have any tips. He just keeps jumping off to be with me. Could this just be a baby thing or is there something I should be doing ?

I'd give it up for a bit and come back to it. Our birds take a while to get used to things.

Their perch is a great example. They LOVED that perch for the first 6 months we got it. For the next 6 months, it was the devil. We nicknamed it, "the perch of screaming." Anytime they'd get near it, they'd squawk like Derek's microwave just dinged.

The perch is now their favorite spot in the house. Next week, who knows!

My cocky is the same. She doesn't want to be over there "by herself" (even though I'm right there). She will stay there if she has some seeds or treats to work on. Maybe try to train your boy by bribing him with treats - if he doesn't climb off, slip him a bit of yummy. Does he have toys there that he likes to play with? My girl isn't really into toys that much, she just wants to hang with me. But if you can find something he really likes, he might want to stay there with it. Maybe one of those treat thingies where you put the food in and they have to work at getting it out? If he likes demolishing things, something to pull to bits. Something he'll like better than hanging with you.

I don't know that you can really train them to be where they don't want to. My girl climbs down and over if she wants to, I have to take her to her cage if I really want to have her be in one place. You might just have to get used to being irrestistible :D

My P'let does the same thing... She flies over to me I put her back. She flies ove to me, and I put her back. We do this about 6-7 times, then the light bulb finally clicks on and she stays. Maybe even sulking a little, but she stays. :)

Bribery tends to work wonders! Eliza and Henry's first choice is to be with me, but I've never found it to be too much of a nuisance. I'll put 'em back on the play stand or somewhere else. They seem to be fine with that--at least until they decide I might be having more fun than they are. I'm fortunate that they are usually no problem to put back in their cages. However, as Joel mentioned, their preferences, likes and dislikes seem to change on a daily basis, so I have to stay flexible.

Thus, in short, I'd counsel patience.

Oh, and banana chips.

My Scooter must be with me most times and won't venture far when out of the cage.. The others alternate to stands and curtain rods around the living room when they're out.

When I leave the room, three of them ALWAYS come looking for me once they realize I'm gone! They've been known to hang outside the bathroom making noises and peeking under the door!! Pretty funny stuff...

E&H do that when I'm here in the office with the door closed. It's an absolute crack-up. Because of their eye-orientation, they sorta put their heads upside-down (as if they're about to do a somersault) so that they can see under the door. All I see is two beaks, and two beady eyes looking at me. I've tried to get a photo of it, but I can't figure out how to get a lens down to that level!

That's it, running back and forth with the head almost upside down on the floor and cheering when they get a sight of a foot move!

Butchie will do the same when he's out and about, but he'll knock on the door and start the "Hello" call in every voice he knows until you answer then he'll start the conversation with "whatcha doin?". Maybe one day he'll figure it out and say, "Whatcha doin, ya poopin?" :54:

Followed by "In one puny little ROOM? Why not use the whole house like we do?"

My dogs and cats follow me about so that I can't do anything (including going to the toilet) without somebody following me, talking to me or trying to trip me over. I shudder to think what it would be like if the birds could join in. No, just no. :D

Does he have any foraging toys? Is he interested when there's food involved? My galah never seemed to play with any of her toys before, but she does now, at some point she started (but that's in her cage, not when she's got the opportunity to come 'visit' with me off her playstand).

Does she have her meals on her stand? Maybe try that. (with dogs, you get them to like their crate and make it "their place" by feeding them in it. My little dog always runs to his crate when treats are on offer.) You can't really blame him for wanting to be with you, it does make sense.

No there are no tips. No caique ( who is not sick or dying) is going to sit passively on a playstand

sorry!

My husband just walked our keets over to the new playstand a dozen times today only to have them fly off to "safety". I walked over and hung a millet feeder on there with some tasty strawberry flavored millet and it was an Ace Ventura moment. All birds came flying right over and immediately decided the new playstand was top notch entertainment ;) I'm not above a bribe every now and then.

Of our 4, only one will sit still for more than a few minutes and that doesn't happen often!! They are ALWAYS on an adventure and looking for something or someone to conquer!! Just the nature of the beast!! They will never be an Eclectus. ?:
