Montana or Rainforest or Kings? (or anything else?)

Hi I'm new and have a BHC called Charlie who's 18 this year.

I wondered what brand/type of cage you guys use for your caiques? Due to the "no more than 3/4" rule" there seems to be for them choice is so limited. I live in the UK as well so we don't get all the choice people in the US get I think.

A few I've looked at give the mm measurements and they come out at 0.9 inches, so not quite an inch. Trying to measure my guy's head and it seems to be 1" or more (don't know why he's so terrified of a tape measure lol).

Been doing my research and although I like the Kings and they're a good size and bar width, it seems there's a quality issue with them nowadays - there seem to be some problems with plastic stuff that breaks off, also they are really expensive.

Therefore wondering what the Montana and Rainforest ones are like quality wise?

Hi Sue, welcome aboard, to you & Charlie, hope you enjoy your stay.....there's a lot to be learned around here.....

Cage choice is pretty much an eclectic thing and you guys on the other side of the pond just might have a better selection than we 'yanks' do, because some of the stuff we've already gone through may not be offered to you simply because they didn't sell here...

While bar spacing is partly about a bird getting it's head caught between them, it is also about the distance their feet can comfortably span...for a caique that would range from 16.88mm to about 19.05mm.....

Your bird may be equating a tape measure to a funny looking snake, a deadly predator.....

Yes, Kings cages are on the expensive side, but like many things cost does not equate to "better than!" If taken care of, most powder coated cages will give years of service, but that "taken care of" might mean hand wiping/washing compared to using a much faster pressure washing unit.....

Sorry, can't answer about those specific cages.....

Good luck.....

Hiya and thank you for your reply.

Successful measurement done once it was getting evening and sleepy parrot time. I finally did this by measuring out a length of string to 1" and my boy's head is more like 1.25 to 1/5 inches - so am assuming this would be OK?

Charlie should be used to real snakes - I have 6 of them - and he is shown the snakes (through the glass) plus a tegu - he doesn't worry about them at all.

Sue
