I got an interesting question here. It hasn't been long that we have our caique. I know that next summer we won't be going anywhere for vacay but the following year we definitely will be fora couple of weeks. It's far away but just the same I would like some opinions on what or where could our bird be left with ? And what comes with leaving behind the parrot for a few weeks while we are on vacation ? Any feedback would be appreciated

Consider taking him with you! You have time to get him used to the car :)

If possible take them with you, if not then I would suggest boarding them at a vet. I don't like boarding anywhere else. Pet shops and professional boarders often aren't as rigorous in checking on the well-being of the animals in their care and quite often animals come back sick meaning you have to pay out for a vet visit. Boarding at a vet you know quarantines and cleanliness are the top priorities, plus they will be given proper good foods for them and be interacted with and they are already in the hands of the experts so if anything happens you know they're never more than a few feet away from a doctor. Heck it's almost safer than being at home! Yes boarding at a CAV is more pricey but you get what you pay for in this world

Since we have Levi we haven't gone anywhere where we could not bring him. I don't ever want to leave him, however I don't believe that is realistic. So, I agree with LordTriggs. If I had to leave him I would board him at my Vet. Boarding in a Bird Shop scares the heck out of me. Plus, my home is pretty quiet and I think all of the noise in a bird shop would be terrifying for him.

Best of luck to you as you research and find your best option.

You should be able to board your Caique with your Avian Vet, or a local pet store, or you can have a friend house-sit for you and be there every day to hang out with your parrot. It is very possible to go on vacation without taking your bird with you and having a good time. You could also foster him with a friend who also has birds, who will be able to care for him during the time youre gone. Just plan ahead, but be prepared for some confusion/hostility when you return home from vacation from your parrot, as they will not really understand what is happening and why you left.

Well stated!

The wonders of technology is that with Skype and other like tech stuff. You can be in near face-to-face contact with your Parrot! When you're out and about during any day, use this tool to begin developing this means of connection.

With the most recent technologies you can even set-up camera /screen /mobile phone technology.

On the very rare event that we do not take our Amazon with us, 'as stated above,' we 'Home-Sit.'

Right you are 'Boats - I was Skyping Salty from the otherside of the world when I was away. I think it helped. Spiro, you have to tell your parrot that you will be gone and for how long, several times before you go. Sounds dumb, but it helps to lessen the nasty homecomings.
