Hello all,

Ive got a 6 month old caique who is amazing, but she does this really weird thing when it comes to baths, she is only just recently having baths and when ever she does she will just hold onto the side of the bowl and flap her wings like she's going to take off, is this normal?

Also there a way to teach her to hop?

He is just getting used to bathing. Xander was the same at first. Next the head will be in and then the whole bird, you will see. The flapping wings just means he is 50/50 or trying to spread the water. Try splashing your fingers in the water, mine loved that and dived right in, it fun for them x

sounds very normal to me. birds will flap their wings around when excited having a bath to splash water all over themselves. She's probably getting a bit over-excited and not realizing her wings need to hit the water to get a splash going. She could also be trying to dry herself off

I have a question about my Caique too. I have 2 little Parrotlets I just recently got, and I’m hoping I can eventually get them out off the cage to play with Ozzie (my Caique) around. Does anyone else here have a Caique and parrotlets? Can you let them out of their cage at the same time? Will my Caique kill my parrotlets? I’ve been patiently working at positive reinforcement with Ozzie too. When he jumps on the parrotlets cage I just gently tell him to step up and he does, I say good boy! I try not to yell at him. I’m thinking that eventually if I keep introducing them for a short period of time and make it longer, maybe he will grow to accept them as his little sisters. Lol! Am I crazy for thinking that? Please help! It’s hard when Ozzie requires so much of my time and then I have to leave the little girls in the cage. They only get out an hour a day. That’s when I put Ozzie in for his afternoon nap. He goes in the cage in my bedroom, and I let the babies out on the breakfast bar?

A Caique could kill a parrotlet if pushed hard enough, constant supervision is required around the whole gang. I'm hoping the parrotlets were quarantined away from Ozzy for a couple weeks before they were brought into contact with each other

I thought about it, I’m definitely going to keep them separated because the other day I had one of the parrotlets out holding her, my husband was here to help just Incase anything happened. I had the parrotlet in one hand and Ozzy in the other. He was good for a while but then he started to go after her. I could tell he was on a rampage too! So I don’t know, I’m thinking I might have made another mistake. I just don’t think clearly with this fibro I have. I hate it. I felt like the birds were a blessing at first because they helped my spirits and they helped me forget my pain. I follow my heart and not my head too much. I’ll never give Ozzy up, even though he’s the toughest to handle. But I’m thinking maybe I should try to find a nice home for the parrotlets before I bond with them too much more. Not really sure yet though. Any suggestion out there? I feel guilty just mentioning this. But I’m also thinking it wouldn’t be fair to them to keep in these conditions.

When a Caique makes a whimpering sound, does that mean he’s sad or crying? Does anyone with caique experience know?

Does anyone here with Caique’s ever have problems with temper? Lol. I mean, for example, lately Ozzie’s been crawling around the back of my neck, he nips at my skin and when I grab her to take her off me and :blue2:

she has a fit. Last night was the worse. I had a busy day yesterday (Easter Sunday) and Ozzie didn’t get his normal attention. That evening I finally had him out of the cage (he was in and out all day) I was holding him , then my sister called to wish me a Happy Easter. I don’t know about your Caique but mine acts out every time I’m on the phone, just like a child, lol! And it was really bad last night so I automatically put him in the cage to go night, night. No cuddles before bed. We usually do that every night before bed and he loves it. So, I’m typing this as I’m waiting for him to wake up this morning, with hopes of a better day.
We have had some adjustments, or changes made the last few days, which could be the reason he’s acting out. I just bought 2 Parrotlets a few weeks ago and also had to re-homed one of them because she didn’t adjust. That was a very successful transition. The bird went to a very nice couple. I was happy to see that work out.
So I’m asking if anyone here has ever had issues like that? And what did you do about it?

It could just be hormones or your caique wanting to play. My caique starts to get a bit nippy when she wants to play.
