A question about introducing a Caique into the family

Hi guys, recently I’ve been interested in extending the family and introducing a Caique. My partner and I already own two Indian Ringnecks who are brothers and are about a year old. I’ve read multiple things about Caiques becoming aggressive to other species when they mature but most of these posts have been about introducing other species after the Caique has been a lone bird for a while. If we were to introduce a Caique to our IRN’s while it is still a baby, would that help with the aggressive nature of the species as it matures? I’d love for them to get along outside of the cage. I know all birds are different but a generalisation would be appreciated. Obviously they won’t be housed together and play time will be supervised.

Thanks guys

tldr: would introducing a Caique, while it is still a baby, to the birds we already own, help reduce the aggressiveness nature of the species when they mature?

Hello and welcome! Glad you joined us! Please tell us more about your Indian Ringnecks.

I have no personal experience with caiques so I’ll let the pros answer your species specific questions.

Sunny a female B&G macaw;
Japie (m) & Appie (f), both are congo african grey;
All are rescues- had to leave their previous homes for 'reasons', are still in contact with them :)
I think most people do not differentiate between agression towards another species and behaviour stemming from an hormonal bird...

I see a lot of people taking on a secord/ third / whatever bird when the previous one is about to step from baby-phase to toddler (testing&discouvering social boundries, finding their grown-up place in the flock) or adodelescent/ early hormonal adult phase (hey...that is MY potential mate, go away!).
So the problemfree (baby)bird turns into a 'problembird' when the new bird arrives...

Of course not all birds "like to share" (the space, their human, their toys, their food) - in nature competition is a tough game!
Though some birds are delighted to have more flockmembers en play along just fine...

But I am somewhat convinced that a lot of these first birds would have become problembirds because of their maturing and not because there is another bird involved.
The timing is just not right...

(and sorry NO direct caique-experience myself..)

idk anything about ring-necks (its on our future bird to do list lol) but yea everything ive read and researched about caiques has been that they adapt well to other birds when raised with them but not when theyve been the solo bird and then you introduce a new one.

Thanks for the replys! For those wondering about our Ringnecks, we got them when they were a few months old and they’ve been bundles of joy ever since. One of them was the runt of the litter but started talking at about 7 months. Since then he’s picked up lots of different words and phrases. Our other one is more of a quiet, independent trouble maker lol. They’ve recently got their flight feathers back from their first clipping and they’ve been enjoying flying around the apartment (we make sure there are no windows or anything they can hit).

Thanks CheistaNL and mrs.pants for the input! I was thinking that if the caique was raised with our guys around then it would be a much more social bird!

Your ringnecks sound like a couple of birds with lots of character. I laughed out loud at he title, independent trouble maker.
