Caique company?

Hello all. I have a question about caiques being alone during the day while we're at work. Would he benefit from having another bird in the room (in a separate cage)? Or would he see it as competition (a parakeet or cockatiel for example)? He has lots of toys but tends to nap & eat more than play. He also doesn't make much noise when he's home alone (there's a live camera so I can check in on him from work & skim through the video). He's doing great & is a happy bird, just curious if a roommate would be good or bad. What do you guys think?

Re: Caique company?

caiques tend to be aggressive toward different species of birds, and arent exactly known to do well with same species unless they've been raises or introduced at a young age. so he may not appreciate a new bird at all, and its most likely youll never be able to have them interact or be near each other.

when we leave our boi we put on cool music or sounds that are dynamic like vaporwave or anime music lolol. he learns new sounds for us and its a silly surprise.

imo if your bois happy, and he still gets at least 2 hours (1 is the minimum i believe) out of cage time a day, no need to risk upsetting and change things.

Re: Caique company?

No, definitely not EVER a good idea with any species of parrot...The only time you should ever bring home a second bird to add to your Flock is because YOU WANT IT to be another companion FOR YOU, and never as a companion/friend for a bird you already have...The reason is that you have absolutely no way at all to know how they will get along, or what type of relationship they will end-up having with each other...Parrots form relationships with each other, whether of different species or the same species, or genders, ages, etc., doesn't matter, much like we as humans form relationships with each other...They might love each other very much and bond so closely that you lose any bond that you have with your current bird; they might like each other and get along fine; they might simply tolerate each other but not want much to do with each other; they might dislike each other and become aggressive with each other if they get close to one another; and they might absolutely hate each other, look at each other as competition, and not even be able to ever be out of their cages together at the same time without becoming aggressive and violent with each other...So it's quite common to end-up with 2 birds that you now have to be responsible for providing ample-time for each day, but separately, making things even more difficult...

Re: Caique company?

Ive read a lot that caiques tend to be very aggressive towards other birds. My partner and I are wanting to get our first bird and we’re swinging between a caique and a sun conure. I personally have always wanted a sun but after we met a caique in our local bird breeder store we (almost) fell in love. Both species would be great fits for our lifestyle.
So my question is; if we eventually in the future decide we’d like to add a sun to our flock and we already have a caique, is that a disaster waiting to happen? And what about the reverse situation, we have a sun and later decide we’d like a caique as well?
