Is 1" bar spacing appropriate?

I bought my three birds a new cage today. I have two caiques and a quaker who all get along. Kings Superior Line XL double macaw cage. I wanted them to have as much space as possible!

My only concern is that the bar spacing of 1" is too big? Currently they are in a cage with 3/4" bar spacing, and that cage has served us well for 6 years. Any thoughts or warning for putting my birds in this cage?

The best tool for determining the correct bar spacing is the measured (estimated) distance between the center of the bird's eyes. This distance defines the largest spacing. Point being, if they can get their head between the bar spacing, it is possible that they could hang themselves.

Large cages can be a difficult undertaking for a first time DIY'er, assure you have help during assembly. My preference is to assembly the cage upside down and than turn it over when one is ready to install the top. In addition, I like a hard surface with a large towel(s) under it to easy movement and it really helps in finding nuts, bolts etc...

Hope this helps!
