Hello all!

As the title says I’ve put a deposit down on a an white bellied caique. After doing research, I can’t seem to figure out if wrought iron cages are ok? It seems they can work, unless the bird is prone to biting on the cage?

At the least I figured I could start with wrought iron and then move over to stainless steel?

What are the truths about wrought iron cages and keeping a caique in one?

Thanks!

Cyrus

hi and welcome aboard. Most cages are steel and powder coated. Its durable and unless it was poorly coated and your parrot has jaws of steel, it should last a long time, with proper cleaning. Never heard of wrought iron used for parrot cage - I would think bare wrought iron would not be good - too easy to rust and corrode. Stainless steel is best but whooo big $$$ . Make sure you get a fully weaned , on solid food young caique. Feeding babies formula is difficult and easy to kill the young chick. Good luck!

Thank you both for your responses!

I’ve found out that I should have this baby home the first week of September! Just can’t wait for her/him to get here! This baby will be fully weaned when I receive him/her.

Welcome, Cyrus! Glad you joined us! How exciting, I think caiques are adorable, I’m looking forward to homecoming photos. Since you have some time before your caique comes home why not shop for a cage other than wrought iron? Stainless Steel is amazing if you can afford it but there’s a wide variety of safe comfortable cages. Here’s a link to our cage forum in case you’d like to browse:
