Our seven-year-old caique, Bunsen, started making shrill noises two days ago and then yesterday, out of nowhere, a giant bulge showed up underneath his head on the side of his neck. Heās been really lethargic, but is eating a ton, as per usual, and seems to be breathing fine. We took him to the emergency hospital yesterday, and they drained some of it, to see if it might be a tumor. Itās hardened and all they drew out was blood with no abnormal WBC or any bacteria. They said that it was a different contusion, but itās as busy as his head.
They sent him home with us, but his demeanor hasnāt changed much. Weāre going into our regular avian vet tomorrow, but have any of you seen this with your birds or have any idea whatās going on? Iām worried to edit until tomorrow, but that vet seemed to not be as familiar with caiques, as we would have hoped.
