Two White Bellied Caique Brothers: Zeke and Zack
I have two boys from the same clutch. They get along really well, preen each other, sleep together, share food, play together (get a little excited at times but nobody's ever hurt), and generally get along fantastically.

Now they are housed together in a cage thats inside cagespace is 2ftx3ftx4ft so they have plenty of room when I'm away from home (which isn't much time with all the remote work).

They are super young - 4 months 2 weeks so it's to be expected they get along.

My question is what do I look for in case things go downhill and need separate cages? I've heard stories where a longtime cagemate kills the other. What do I look out for?

Thanks!

Hi ! I have only read that caiques do that when a new parrot is introduced, not when siblings are housed together, but you may have more info than I. I would monitor them to see if the rough housing graduates to actual fighting.

RIP Gandalf and Big Bird, you are missed.
A great question, though I know nothing about Caiques. Some species may become lifelong friends regardless of sex, your first inkling of their housing situation may come when puberty arrives. Guessing that'd be somewhere between 9 to 18 months, but other members may have better precision.
