Hey all,

I am so impressed with our Chicken Little that I became curious about how many of us have 'tiels that DO talk. If you have a happy talker, what does he/she say?

Our "Chicken Little" is only about 6 months old, he's a male pied.

Within 3 weeks of adopting him he was happily blurting out.

"Pretty pretty pretty prettty pretty birrrrdieee"
Wolf Whistle
Kiss sound

He did this a lot - along with a bunch of monkey screams, squeals, and normal tiel chattering.

Just this week he added to his vocabularly his name

"Chicken Little" and
"Him a good boy"

He'll say..."Chicken Little, him a good boy."

Sometimes he puts it all together, **wolf whistle** "pretty pretty pretty pretty pretty birrrdieee, Chicken little, him a good boy...kiss kiss kiss, wolf whistle"...and repeat in various orders :D

It's sooo adorable! So now I've started saying to him "What'cha Doin?"

We have a female tiel and she does nothing more then a chirp every now and then...she don't kiss or wolf whistle ever...she don't even chatter any....just a super quiet girl.

We also have a conure and he's learned from Chicken Little to say the pretty pretty pretty pretty pretty birrrdie.

Oh and I've been saying to them all...I lovvvveee youuuu. (kissing sound) and when I say I love you to our Conure, he ends it with the "kiss"

I will try to get Chicken on video so you can hear him....it's soo darn cute!

Tell me what your 'tiel says:yellow1:

Wow! Your tiel has a very nice vocabulary. I've been trying to teach my tiel lily to talk, though she doesent seem too interested other than to suddenly scream in my ear and fly around the room wily to land on her self proclaimed "perch" ( an expensive lamp on a tall pole). I'm hoping it's just because she's young that she doesent pick up the words yet. I have heard that females tend to not talk, yet I'm not sure what lily is. I just call her she because she seems like a girl.

Thanks, yes Chicken Little is developing quite the vocabulary. Since I started this thread, he's learned to say:

Hello, What'cha Doin? and "Him a pretty bird"

And we're working on "how are you?" He's said it like...twice...

Anyway, when I bought our Lutino tiel, she was sold to us as a male, but shortly after getting her home, I realized she was a female, she does not talk at all, only chirps and then, even that's rare. She's VERY quiet and oh so bonded to my husband! LOL

When we bought Chicken Little, he was so young, we didn't know what he was, but within a week, I knew he is DEFINITELY a boy because he talks, chirps, squawks and whistles up a storm.

What type of tiel do you have? A gray, pied, lutino or some other variation?? Sometimes it's very difficult to tell male/female but with some, especially the grey's you can usually distinguish them.

Females tend to have barring on their tail feathers (mature birds)

Anyway, thanks for your response, I'll be getting a new video of Chicken little uploaded in the next few days. You can see him in the congo forum under the thread of videos of your birds talking and playing...or something along those lines.

:D

Haha cute. And shes a pied, though she is so much prettier than most. She actually has grey wings, but the flight and bottom wing feathers are a beautiful yellow. She has the most amazing coloration and beautiful tail feathers. Though her extremely sweet attitude is the cutesy thing. She will scream loudly if I walk out of a room to get food and leave her alone, and if I don't come back within a time that suits her, she will come looking for me. She likes to squack quite a bit actually. Whenever I wake up in the morning and I notice she's awake, I'll open up her cage so she can excercise, then go back to sleep. About 15 minutes later I'm woken up by lily sitting either on my head or on the pillow staring at my face and screaming extremely loud. Best. Alarm. Clock. Ever.

I had a male lutino 'tiel name Chloe(the people I got him from thought that he was a she when they first got him) and we would have changed his name except that he already knew how to say it and responded to it. He would say "Chloe chloe chloe", he almost always said it three times like that and really fast in that cute little 'tiel voice :p His previous owners 12 year old son also taught him to say "retard" which he, unfortunately, said VERY clearly... My friends were always like, "did that bird just call me a retard?!" lol
