I have a Cockatiel named Jay. <3
Please help me.
My Cockatiel, Jay, (Around 10 years old) had his first FIVE seizures today. The first one I wasn't able to witness properly since it lasted only about 8 seconds. The next four shocked me. They consist of this order:
1. He either begins twitching his head or his wings spread out like he is about to fly.
2. He lets out loud squawks and falls off his perch, if he is on one.
3. He stumbles around the bottom of his cage and continues to squawk, while having body spasms and twitching.
4. Sometimes, he foams at the beak.
5. He stops after about 10-20 seconds, staying at the bottom of his cage and doesn't move for a good five minutes, his eyes closed.
6. He shakes violently while at the bottom of the cage, then opens his eyes after and looks around, confused.
7. He repeats this at varying times, either a few minutes or hours between each one.

His most recent one was about 5 minutes ago, and it's starting to worry me. I don't have the money to take him to a vet or a bird specialist, and seeing him like this breaks my heart. I covered him from any draft and covered his cage with a blanket to keep it dark. I also put a towel at the bottom of his cage, in case he fell from a perch. That was he'd at least fall on something comfortable. I haven't seen, on any site, anything about Cockatiels having seizures and FOAMING at the beak. It's starting to make me worry that something more severe is happening. Can anyone help me? Thanks..

No one on here is a Vet and I am sad to read that you lack the ability to take him to a vet. however, unless you take him to the vet you won't be able to know whats really going on with him or if you can help him at all. try to make him as comfortable as possible. Also try and google discount vet... or vet schools in your area. sometimes you can get a VERY good deal or FREE care. also the human society offers VERY cheap vet care on all animals!!!! I wish you the best of luck and i hope your bird comes thru! and is happy and healthy soon.

My first bird was a parakeet named Buddy (passed away November 8, 2012). My newest friend is a parakeet named Chipper.
Oh my God...I am really sorry to hear what is happening to your poor bird. That would be heartbreaking to see. I really feel bad for you. :(

But unfortunately, there is nothing we can really do to help. Seizures would be caused by some kind of neurological problem and I just don't see how there would be anything you could do at home. He needs a vet. You need to try calling around to different vets, or even just bring him to the nearest vet and explain the situation. Maybe they can work out something with you, like making payments or something. This is an emergency situation, and I just can't see how any decent vet would just turn you away and allow an animal to suffer like this. That would be completely unethical. If you explain the situation, and they see the bird, I'm sure they would work out something with you.

I really hope and pray your birdie makes it through this and recovers well.
