First off, why are tiels lumped into the budgies & keets section?? Technically they are cockatoos, but if they don't deserve to be included there then they should get their own section. :p Just sayin', they're special enough to deserve it!

Anyway, I have four of the little devils, and three out of the four (my males) are typical calm cockatiels (albeit a little weird). However, my young female is NUTS! I swear she didn't get the memo on what her species is supposed to behave like. She's constantly spazzing out, running around, attacking her toys, flapping her wings, and chewing things. She's a total sweetie and very affectionate on the rare occasion that she calms down.

Anyone else have a totally insane tiel??

I love my Freya girl to bits, I just think she's a bit odd.

I do agree that they should be in the cockatoo section, rather than the parakeet section.... They are closer to the cockatoo than the budgie...

Their closest relative according to DNA is the Redtailed black cockatoo...

That sounds just like Tweety (my cockatiel)!!!! Most of the time she is CRAZY, but she also loves to sit on my leg for a head rub. :)

With the chewing part.....she distorted a chair by chewing on one of the leg, and that was when she was only 5 week. :20:

I thought the same with cockatiels having its own section. Anywho... I just wanted to say that your tiel is adorable! Lovely marking and colors.

They can also hybridize with galahs, so they are most certainly cockatoos. Just tiny ones. ;)

Glad to know I'm not the only one with a crazy tiel, haha.

The first question that comes to mind is how old are your tiels? Tango is 15 months and puberty is kicking in.

Thanks. :) Your Tango is beautiful too!
She's young...around three or four months I think. But I got her shortly after she was weaned and she's always been this way. So I don't think it's hormones.

Sometimes once they are well adjusted and comfortable to their new surroundings, it could be their personalities starting to appear. Mine was home for about 5 weeks and the personality really started to show..
