Hey guys,
A couple of weeks ago I agreed to board a pair of elderly cockatiels for a friend who is renovating her house and moving. They will be here for a month or so, and I have to say they are the cutest little things imaginable. My grandmother had a tiel when I was growing up whom we had found outside in the cold. He was the grouchiest, meanest, most crotchety old man, and the memory stuck with me. These guys are quite elderly (late twenties) but I just cant get enough of them. They have changed my mind about cockatiels! I love their expressions, the way they titter around in their cage, and all the sounds they make. <3 :grey:

funny how things work out. I'm glad to hear you changed your mind about them, they are great birds!!

I love cockatiels, for one I breed them :), love hand raising them, they look like funny little pterodactyls!
Actually right now I am hand feeding a day old baby cockatiel, he hatched yesterday, mom and dad tossed him. After 3 attempts of trying to returning him, he's now in my care.
the story is posted under the cockatiel section.
enjoy your babysitting

They are like little cartoon characters. Everything they do is just so silly! I cant believe how old they are, especially since they are rescues and havent had the best beginning to their lives. Ive told my friend these boys can stay as long as they want... forever even!

your friend should be commended on how well she has taken care of these two.
It's never an easy task to take care of our feathered friends and anything can happen from hour to hour.
maybe you will find your own cockatiel friend??
I own a Sennie as well, along with lovebirds, cockatiels, and a Kakariki, they all get along except for my Sennie. she has to come out on her own, but tolerates their noise and flying around quite well when she's in her cage.
they know enough to stay far away from her cage too, lol.

Their current owner is actually the owner of the local rescue. These guys were available for adoption but no one wanted them due to their old age. She is crazy about them now, and I doubt she would let them go. She takes amazing care of all the feather-butts she has. They all get everything they could possibly need or want, and most of it comes out of her own pocket. Im currently fostering a sennie for her, and I actually enjoy having multiple birds. Four is definitely my limit though, and I think the two poi are plenty for me. Im a full time PhD student and Dave is in teachers college. We are not home enough for a house full of birds. I barely keep up with the mess as it is!

Wish I knew how old my tiels are! I only know the age of one, and only because I've had her since she was 5 months old. Rest are ages unknown, and I suspect that one may be in his 20s'.

They really are charming little birds though!

Cockatiels are wonderful birds to own!!! After raising them for over 16 years they're still one of my favorite!

Crimson, feeding a day old chick is a tiring job. Did you give him some yogurt to start the bacteria???
