Good day to you all

I have a cockatiel that I handreared about a year ago now, and having a few problems with her feathering.

She always has broken feathers. Most of the the time it's the blood feathers on the wings that break, and she gets all blooded up.

For a long time she didn't have tail feathers. As soon a one would grow halfway, it would break off and just hang there.

Although she is in an acceptable condition at the moment, I would like to get her in top shape.

Any advice? :grey:

It could be any number of things.

If there is blood they are likely to pick at it which can break other/new feathers in the area leading to more bleeding then more picking, etc. This happened to Augie a while back. I as pretty worried and brought him to a vet. I good bath and scrubbing of the area and some aloe lotion did the trick.

If its not that kind of cycle do you know how or why she is breaking feathers? What kind of cage is she in?

Are their nutritional issues, what doe she eat?

She is living in a big cage (Larger than the average round cockatiel cage) together with my GC Conure.

I feed her a seed mix the same as my conure, i.e. Sunflower seeds, some smaller seeds and a few nuts, together with some dried chilli's every now and again for a treat. I do not use any vitamins or additives in her water, although there are some vitamin bix in her food. :grey:
