We've been having "weiro sessions" in the bathroom when I have a bath. I take Tony and Eddie (formerly Doris) in there with me and let them just "hang out" with me. They are not good at flying, Tony is better, but Eddie seems really hopeless at it, I wonder what they got to do before I adopted them. I have questions about their behaviour......

They tend to fly off up somewhere (or DOWN somewhere in Eddie's case) and then stay there. Is this normal for weiros to just find a spot and sit, or just because they are still not used to being "free" and need to get accustomed to it?

Tony's natural response when I approach is to open his beak at me (and bite me if I'm actually there). He always does "the face". Is it a trying-to-scare-me-away thing/display, getting ready to bite to "protect himself" or expecting food or something else "thing"..... It's kind of strange how he always does this, but Eddie doesn't. He doesn't seem particularly scared, I just say something and he starts "talking" to me normally, he doesn't try to move away or anything, it's just "the face" and then he seems fine and relaxed.....

Could I teach them to fly to me, or is that asking too much? Gotta get them stepping up without fearing their imminent demise first, but is it something weiros could do? It'd be nice to have them come down when it's "bedtime" instead of having to make them come down.

I'm going to try bribing them with millet. All the other times in their cage they think I'm trying to kill them with it, but in the bathroom, they might give it a go.... If I can get them taking food from me, that might help "taming" them, I think.

Thanks for any help.

Thanks, we'll see how we go. First goal is to stop Tony biting. That can be dispensed with FORTHWITH thank you very much, Tony..... :D

I'm wondering what to do about housing. The weiros don't really make use of the cage they are in, and the budgies are inside because I've got bulldozers in my backyard. It's nice having them inside, but their patio cage is longer so they can really fly about. Sigh. I wish I had a bigger house.....

I might have a look for something else for the weiros and then the budgies can have the one the weiros are in so they'd also have an indoor and an outdoor.
