Cockatiel- Kalypso
Okay, because of winter being upon us and spring is about to arrive (fingers crossed) I was wondering what age do cockatiels show signs of hormones? What gender is it typically worse in as I heard male zons and female ekkies have typically worse hormonal behavior than the other gender? Also soon I will be building Kalypso a play area but Im not sure how to introduce her to it as she is "phobic"ish. Any input is appreciated :) :grey::yellow1:

I have couple of tiels and they definitely take there time in accepting anything new. Not sure what should be the best way.

Hang the toys near by, they'll get used to it eventually.

To me males are worse then the females as the males go through a stage where they can become little terrorist and can become super aggressive and throwing temper tantrum. Worse if you don't stop it right away. They'll try to run you over.

Cockatiels can start breeding as early as 7 months old but not recommended! So hormones can start around that age. They start to go through their first major molt around 5 months old and it'll last for awhile.

I was wondering about hormones too but I didn't want to ask yet another question. I'm glad you did.

These are my great grand babies. They belong to my neighbor but I'm the hand feeder. They're flying around now. Number one and two are 25 days old, number 3 is 23 days old, number 4 is 21 days old, and number 5 is 19 days old.

I love the tiels but I'm no longer am able to keep them around due to their excessive dust. So this is my only interactions with them once all my tiels are gone. Or just walk next door if I go through tiel withdrawal.....

My tiel went through the major molt at exactly 5 months and I think Kalypso may be a he just because she is losing the bars on the underside of her tail feathers and the spots on her wings. So Kalypso is 7 months so that kind of worries me as Kalypso is already very sassy. The tiels are so cute to me most birds are pretty or beautiful but tiels are just so darn cute.
