Well as you all know, i have an Asthma case in the house so i went out first and got an airpurifier.Got the bird and put it in the same room as the purifier only to find out that my mother who has asthma didnt have a problem at all.Me on the other hand had a weird reaction lol How ironic? Me buying all this stuff to make sure my mother wont have problem and finally turns out that i myself have problems lool i find it funny. Anyways, its not something i cant handle so i'm keeping the bird :)
Now to the bird. Its a light yellow cockatiel with an orange dot on its cheek so i guess its a male, coz i heard that males have a more obvious dot on the cheeks. I dont know if thats correct, but thats what i have heard.
The bird looks strong and healthy. But he is not used to humans and when i try to put my hand in the cage he will freak out.So i would like to have some guidance from you guys. Besides making him hungry and putting my hand in the cage with some food so he will get used to my hand, what should i do?
I figured i will let him just sit there for a couple of days to get familiar with the environment around him, and take it from there. Am i on the right track?

Thanks all

Hey GT, congrats on you new fid (fid=feathered kid), sounds like your off to a good start, in most cases it is best to leave them in the cage for a few days to settle down and get used to its new surroundings, any time you walk by the cage speak calmly and softly or even sit by the cage and do the same, if you can take some pictures of the bird we may be able to help you determine the sex, pics of the face and underneath the tail would be most helpful :)

Day 2 . Bird still in cage and doesnt wanna come out. Still afraid of humans. I recorded his voice when he was screaming last night, and now everytime i play it back, he starts screaming thinking its another bird hehe , its so cute.
What can i use as a treat for him? an apple, or grapes?
I need to find a good treat so i can start making him like me :)

Take your time on this. It is tempting to rush but that can do harm. The bookParrots for Dummies is excellent. Check out advice to owner of Tori (conures thread ) although your bird sounds like she needs some time to just share space with you and learn trust for a bit. Your patience now will be rewarded.
