After searching and searching for many months for a cinnamon tiel local to me with no success... I realized I would have to make a long drive to get one since I have my heart set on getting a cinnamon tiel.

A breeder who is few hours drive from where I live is DNA testing this super cute cinnamon baby. I HOPE it turns out to be a male as a male fits best in my specific situation.

Here "it" is... very cute bird :) The father is a grey/pied and the mother is a cinnamon.

The breeder said she will DNA test in another week or so because he/she is still very young baby and she wants to wait at least another week or 2 before testing. I'm keeping my fingers crossed because that little bird is adorable and exactly what I've been looking for the past several months! :)

I wonder what age is the youngest age people usually DNA test?

Here is the baby cinnamon's parents. The mother is a cinnamon and the father is a grey/pied. The baby looks just like its mother!

I've been told that cinnamons are sex link mutations, so in order for there to be a male or female cinnamon baby the mother must be a cinnamon. If the mother were not a cinnamon then this baby would 100% be a female. ... so that means this baby can be either a male or female.... hope that's correct =)

Yes, it could be either in your case :) So cute! And as for age, I personally test while the feathers are still in pins, but some people are uncomfortable testing that young.

Wow, you have a LOT of birds and other pets! I would REALLY love to get a GCC now but I decided another tiel for now works best as my tiel HATES being alone he is miserable alone and another tiel is a better companion for him even if they don't love each other. He will at least have another tiel to sing to or "fight" with. I eventually plan to also get a GCC but not until a couple years from now and always wonder if I can handle 3 birds but seeing people like you with LOTS of birds makes me feel silly for worrying about 3 birds being "too much" lol :)

OMG... cannot get over how ridiculously cute this baby cinnamon tiel is. The suspense on waiting to see what gender it is... is killing me!!! LOL

I have to wait at least 2 weeks before I find out. OMG. This is round 2... another tiel I DNA'd recently turned out to be a female HOPING this time I get lucky!! If this one's a male it will be worth the 8 hour drive back and forth LOL. It is almost 4 hr drive from where I live and luckily my mother lives in the city this bird is in so I can spend night and then drive back home in morning.

Cinnamon's have such beautiful coloring.... and this one's feet are darker which I LOVE... I know I'm weird :D

Different homes and lifestyles mean different amounts of time available. I work from home and can double up work with snuggles. Most of my birds also share cages, etc so they need less from me, and not all of them are tame. I breed birds, which obviously impacts the number of birds I have. If I had a different job, if my birds didn't get along with each other, if we didn't have an entire room just for cages and half the rest of the house covered in play stands, it wouldn't work. If there is one thing I have learned it is not to judge a parrot lover by the number of parrots, because that has little to do with how much they love their birds or how much time they spend learning :)

When I said I'm not sure if I can handle 3 birds... I meant I'm not sure if I would go insane or not LOL ;)

As I know I can easily manage 2 birds... but 3 birds might be pushing it for me... I would LOVE LOVE to have a GCC (I've never had one before and they seem like amazing little birds and so playful!) but I've decided another tiel works best now and I will get a GCC in a couple years when I have more time to play around. I too work from home and I know I would end up playing with a GCC nonstop and not getting any work done hehe :)

I'm really confused here. I just read the following online:

"The only way the babies could be males would be if the father was split to cinnamon as well as the mother being a visual. With the combination you stated there (male grey & female cinnamon) all the male babies would be all greys split to cinnamon and all the females would be cinnamon".

... so this means that baby cinnamon tiel is more likely to be female than male? :(

This is confusing! REALLY hoping that cinnamon baby turns out to be male.

So if this baby turns out to be female, will you keep looking? I think the cinnamon's are a beautiful color too. Good luck.

As far as being a pet owner with multiple birds, "personally" it is a lot to have the birds I have. Not counting the budgies who stay in their flight cage for now, the 3 parrots don't all get along, and Griffin is SO active that he has to be watched constantly and has a little less out of cage time than Robin and Raven. That plus having a busy life, and it is not always easy to juggle.

I believe a lot depends on each bird's personality...it would be so much easier if they all got along as a flock, and Griffin was trustworthy like the other two.
I'd say the individual personalities makes a ton of difference, and is a major factor whether multiple birds is easy or not.

I REALLY hope this cinnamon turns out to be a male as a male fits my specific situation better so if DNA results come back as female unfortunately I will have to keep looking (this baby tiel will be an 8 hour drive back and forth). I already have a male tiel and he would love singing with his brother and I don't want potential egg binding/laying issues.

My tiel has a huge cage but he sleeps in a fish tank next to my bed for the rest of his life due to chronic night frights which almost killed him... even with lights on or off... even if he slept in his smaller 17 inch travel cage or huge cage... nightlights or not... cage partially covered or not... it doesn't matter. I already got hit with a MASSIVE $5,100 vet bill!!! He almost died. After 3 years of h*ll I FINALLY found the PERFECT solution... he LOVES sleeping in the fish tank and I love it too. He is completely different bird now at bed time.. it used to be nightmare and stressful. Not anymore and he LOVES no longer being alone at night :)
I was eventually going to have the new tiel sleep in fish tank with him and that would not work if the new tiel is a female as it would definitely provoke breeding as the fish tank resembles a nest. I need the new bird to be a male.... so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

The fish tank solved the night fright problems? Interesting, but great. Good luck with the baby!

The fish tank idea was given to me by someone else who had same problem... the first week was a total nightmare but then my tiel got used to it and LOVES the fish tank.... he sings with joy every night when I put him to bed LOL... whereas before it was a nightmare and he was a devil at bed time. It has worked MIRACLES and I am sooooo happy I FINALLY found solution as he used to have night fright episodes CONSTANTLY. He has been sleeping in the fish tank now for many months and hasn't had a single episode... but if he does... which I'm sure eventually he might... it is much safer in the small fish tank as he can't injure him so seriously as he did in the cage. I cover half the fish tank to make him feel safe.

I even built him a custom made bed and he likes to sleep squashed in the corner of the tank he likes to lean against the glass wall... he sings and chuckles in his tank every night few minutes before going to sleep and he likes being able to see me all night long he's no longer by himself :D

Again, I think that's great that it helped your little guy so much. I wonder if this method is something that would help other tiels or birds in general who have a tendency toward having night frights?

Curious ... I'm wondering if he just needs a (pardon the term) birdhouse? Then, simply replace one of the sides with glass or plex so he can see you next to him. It might free up some of your bedroom space again as you could likely mount it to the wall beside your bed. :)

I don't see why not :)

The first few days in the tank was a NIGHTMARE though he was pacing back and forth back and forth nonstop... I almost gave up on the tank.... but then my tiel got used to the fish tank and it's been absolutely wonderful :D

I think it's good for those who have chronic night fright episodes. Night time used to be stressful always wondering when he would have his next episode... now evenings are peaceful with no worries. He literally almost died after having night fright in his small 17 inch travel cage. He also has a HUGE cage... that's small travel cage is not his usual cage of course... not that he's ever in his cage. Spoiled rotten velcro bird he is.

EDIT: I don't have desire to change anything because I don't want to increase hormonal behavior with bird houses... if it ain't broke don't fix it. Way it is now is perfect :) Plus the fish tank sits on table with wheels and I just wheel it into the spare bedroom during the day to get it out of my bedroom ;)
