Mods I apologize if this counts as double posting.

Apparently I did something wrong. I wanted a poll.

Being bird people y'all Wong steer me wrong and you understand.

Long story short my allere are worse than I thought and I may be told I can't have tiels anymore.

If so I want to keep one anyway. I really want to keep Jet. He is partly bonded to me. He is also bonded to Rex a girl.

So my choices may be keep none or keep 1 or 2 against medical advice. I currently have 5. They had babies. Not realizing I was having problems I planned on keeping rose my pearl lutino baby.
The other baby is needing to go to his new home.

I don't know how much sence I'm making.

If necessary keep none
Keep Jet
Keep rose

Have you already tried to air purifiers, bathing the birds frequently, many other ways to deal with bad allergies?

If you want my opinion I would say to rehome both tiels but...
make sure you do it locally and try to get some kind of arrangement that you would be able to get " visitation rights" with the birds.
that way you wont miss them so much and they wont miss you so much and short exposure to the allergens might be delt with by OTC medication.

Tex so you think Jet is better staying with Rex than me. I do want what's best for them. And yes thinking better today if split Rex would miss Jet too

I have a friend who is allergic to everything, but she still insist on keeping her birds despite what her doctor says. One thing she likes to do is keep the birds outside on nice days and bring them indoors at night.

I have two tiels that are strongly bonded to each other. I can't even take one into the shower with me without the other going crazy with worry and constant contact calls that necessarily go unanswered.
I am sure they would miss each other a lot more than they would miss me.
every case is different and you know your birds best.
I too am experiencing shortness of breath. I need to see the Dr and find out what the problem is but I would rather cut of my own right arm than have to let my birds go.
that being said I am considering re-homing one of my tiels. It continues to pluck it's feathers and I have been unable to help her.
If I could find someone better able to take care of her I would let her go for her own good.

He does scream for rex more. He screams for me too. Its kinda funny if ive been gone all day then come home he doesnt want me to leave.

He flies over and lands on my head or flies out the door with me but as soon as we get to the bathroom he starts screaming for rex. The few times I make sure its safe then take him to the kitchen with me he screams for rex and flies back down the hall. So yeah he seems more bonded to Rex. Shes the wife. Im the bff.

I do have a local home that will take in both. Ive talked to her and told her the whole situation. She verbalizes understanding of proper care and the importance of keeping them together.

She also verbalizes understanding to not overbreed. She asked me about how many clutches they should have.

She used to have a parrot. I forgot to ask what kind. She said she is going to start reading about cocatiel specifc care.

I suggested she join the forum.

Grace, you must feel heartbroken! I'm glad you're feeling better than yesterday!!

IMHO you should rehome them together. The lady you've been speaking with sounds like a good match! AND, perhaps you could visit them on occasion?

You must think of your health first. We (none of us) are nothing without our health, unfortunately.

I agree with keeping them together, but please type up an adoption contract specifying your rights :)

I would re-home both and get a GCC as those aren't dusty like tiels :) ... I would feel too bad about splitting them apart :(

Sorry to hear about your health problems but perhaps before you part with them there is something you havent tried in the line of allergy meds etc but if you have tried all avenues and are still faced with this heart breaking decision then I really do feel that the two bonded tiels need to go together otherwise it would be heartbreaking for them. Sorry this is happening in your life and that you are faced with choices like these.

Part of it is my fault. I didnt think my allergies were that bad. I thought I was ok and maybe witb one I was. Maybe with 2 I would have been. Four not so much.

I should have stayed with one. I kept thinking its just one more. I made a mistake and took on too many pets.

Im going to learn and move on and im going down to one fid.
