Ok, this is either way beyond anything I would have expected, or else this little guy is just doing his natural wild tiel call which I've never heard. Anyone know what a wild tiel call sounds like? Is my bird going to grow up to be a gunslinger?

At the end of the video he took off to make three laps around the living room before coming to rest on the windowsill. No worries about crashing into the windows, the blinds are open but not raised. :D

That sounds like a human whistling... that whistling is definitely NOT coming from the tiel.... I'm referring to the whistling of the song not the little chirps from the tiel. Tiels also have much higher pitched "voices" than the man who is whistling in the video.

Yes, that's me whistling of course :D But the birdy chirps interest me. Do you think he was making a natural/wild cockatiel call or trying to mimic me? Sounds like he's got the first four notes, but maybe he would make that sound even if he never heard me? I've tried searching for wild or native cockatiel calls but couldn't find anything. Funny thing is he was doing it a lot in the car on the way home, then a little bit last night and I haven't heard a peep from him today. He seems happy though! Steps up wonderfully well, stands for scritches, and has been eating well so I think we're off to a great start! :grey:

Those are very common normal bird chirps tiels make. Cute tiel though :D

Hey Tex, keep up the whistling ... I saw one tiel who could do the whole Andy Griffith show song, while the owner accompanied him on guitarar. Another video had a tiel whistling a piece of classical music, and he did it so well it was like a master violin player .. almost brought tears to my eyes he did it so well. So they can do quite a bit.

From what I've found so far it seems like it's probably a bit early for him to start. Seems like around 5-8 months is typical and he's only a bit over 2 months old right now.

No worries on the training, I'm ready for him! I got Tequila and Sweet Georgia Brown down already. I'm not a super musician but I've at least put together some simple renditions on guitar while whistling. Probably need to work out The Fishin' Hole (Andy Griffith song) one of these days too but I'll wait until Dusty starts picking stuff up ;)
