Two Cockatiels: Rascal (Geraldine) and his baby brother named Coconut!
I shot this video literally 5 minutes after I first brought him home today… he refuses to step up (he just met me for the first time few hours ago… so I don’t blame him)… but when I put my finger near him he puts his head down and actually nudges my finger and asks for scritches!! You can see this in the video. He is super affectionate! :D I was giving him scritches for several minutes before I got him on video and he loved it! When I move my finger away… he would move towards it and ask for more scritches! :D
He is also chewing on the cuttlebone, playing with toys, preening, stretching and looks like he’s already comfortable right at home… he’s even grinding his beak right now!!! LOL

I know he needs to acclimate etc before I move him into the massive cage with my tiel…so I will try to leave him alone… here’s short vid of the future cuddle bug: [ame="https://youtu.be/Wd7hvxzNGBM"]"Coconut" - Baby Male Cinnamon tiel's first video! :) - YouTube[/ame]

Eventually he will be roommates with Rascal in this white mansion of a cage :)

I'm used to my tiel biting very hard when he bites... but this new tiel just tickles... he doesn't really bite even when I made him mad!

I will make better videos when I actually hold the camera correctly... I shot the thing wrong and then also rotated it, my bad... I meant to shoot it in widescreen!

I will make a cuddle video of Coconut soon... it's crazy how cuddly he is! :D ... is this because the breeder more than likely pet him often or is it just this tiel's way of being naturally?

Cinnamon tiels really are tan colored not grey... looks very pretty :)

I know cinnamons are like normal greys in the fact that they will eventually lose the yellow bars on the tail if they are male... the yellow on face and orange cheeks will become more vibrant... but he will stay a cinnamon tiel... that won't change?.... his mom was a cinnamon shown pictured below along with his father who was a grey pied :) ... he looks just like his mother now...

Wow, I just weighed Coconut on my food scale and he is 104 grams! I want to monitor his weight so I can see if he's losing lots of weight I will know there might be problem then.

... but Rascal who is turning 4 yrs old on July 11th is only 86 grams... this new tiel is a bigger guy :)

I thought I had read you had him sexed. But with that specific color the breeder could of easily visual sexed him. But his color will change! He would be like a light grey color. I've had cinnamon males before, they've given me beautiful babies.

I know cinnamons and lutinos are sex linked mutations... in order to get a cinnamon baby the mother MUST be a cinnamon... if the mother is not a cinnamon then there is ZERO chance the baby will be a male cinnamon (all cinanmon babys would be female in that case)... but if the mother is a cinnamon... then the baby can be either a male or female... so a DNA is still required in order to know gender before the tiel has gone through first molt :)

... that is why I had Coconut DNA tested... because he could have been a female or a male since his mother was a cinnamon.

Yes the baby could be a male or female BUT there's ways to visual sex when they're young in that specific trait. The mother has to be a cinnamon yes, the father was either split or a cinnamon male.

Wow, Rascal is 86 grams and baby Coconut is 104?! Although individuals vary of course, that sounds like a big difference there!

Yeah tell me about it LOL

This tiel is going to be a monster compared to Lil' Rascal. I was surprised when I weight him! I know people here have tiels 120 or 130 grams? That makes Coconut look like a midget!

When do they stop gaining weight? After they are weaned? As Rascal has been same pretty much same weight since the day he was weaned... actually I think he was actually 81 or 82 grams back then (I could be wrong, don't remember)...

Don't be too surprised if he loses a bit of weight. My Dusty was 97g when I picked him up from the bird shop and he gave me a bad scare because of his weight loss after I brought him home. He got all the way down to 78g! I took him to the bird shop and they checked him out to be sure he still had a healthy amount of muscle on his bones, which he did, and they told me the birds often leave the shop a bit overwieght. Since he flies around my apartment all the time he gets to burn a lot of calories, which he couldn't do in the tiny cage where he was weaned. Now he's back up to 83g and holding. Still flying all over, chewing on everything in sight and being as much of a pest as possible and I've finally stopped worrying. Guess he's just going to be a little guy which is fine as long as he's healthy.

The chicks will lose a bit of weight right when they fledge. I wouldn't worry about it too much, once they start flying around they'll be more fit and less weight. Otherwise you'll have a chunky tiel....
