Sorry to post so much about my new tiel Coconut, I just find is exciting

Coconut finally discovered my homemade honey stick he has in cage... it is keeping him busy :D

... this new baby tiel is soooo much more independent than my other tiel (Rascal). I remember when Rascal was a baby he was super needy (still is today) and stayed on my shoulder from the second I brought him home he didn't want to be anywhere else.... maybe that is why he is now a massive VELCRO bird LOL.... I guess it is better to have one velcro bird and one more independent?? I LOVE how clingy Rascal is though....

Don't be sorry! He's a cutie and you're excited, it's natural. I'm pretty sure I've posted my share of pics of Dusty and have no intentions of stopping :)

Hey, can you share the recipe for the honey sticks? It looks like a nice crunchy thing that Dusty might enjoy.

It's super easy and super fast to make... I have the dry mixture all ready stored in a large bin so all I do is throw it in the oven for 30 min at 350 degrees (then must dry overnight).... I make my own honey sticks as the ones in the store have all sorts of junk ingredients.

Ingredients to make one big honeystick... I don't measure anything these are just approximate:

- About 2 cups bird seed mix of your choice
- About half or 1 cup of Harrisons bird bread mix (helps seeds stick together)
- rolled oats (however much you want)... this also helps seeds stick together
- coconut flakes (however much you want)
- date syrup (I use this instead of honey)... just a little bit
- dried fruits
- AGAR AGAR - about 2 tablespoons (I use this instead of Gelatin... very nasty stuff!!) Vegan here.

I just throw all ingredients into a large bowl asides from the the agar agar. I bring the agar agar to a boil in about half cup of water and then pour it into the dry mixture... mix and knead it together and put it into a tiny short bread pan... sounds like a lot of work but it literally takes me 5 min to prepare one.

The honeysticks smell amazing! :D

Gonna have to try that for BB...and Amy. Thanks for sharing!

I am having a problem with the honeysticks though which I have not fully figured out.... sometimes it comes out PERFECT and sometimes it turns into hard concrete so hard they cannot even eat it!!

I think when I put too much of the Harrisons bird bread mix this happens... it's not because I overbaked it... or maybe it is... I have no idea :p
