hello,

already made a post here about my female cockatiel genes but i tough it would be best to make a new one for advice in how to handle her.

ive had birds for 10 years and in those years ive had 4 cockatiels, 3 from pet shop and 1 from breeder. all of them except one were not hand tame but after day one in new home they were eating, drinking and going around their cage.

the female i got now, i got her from another person, not breeder, and she used to be with another cockatiel. she is extremely skittish hasnt been drinking or eating for 1 day and half.
she vocalized a bit today after earing my phone tone but thats it.

ive been giving her space but im a bit worried cause this never happened to me and i dont know how to interact with her.

got her new cage and its already set up with natural perches and going to get and make toys.

i need advice:
-in how can i approach her or how to behave around her...
-when do i move her to new cage and how to move her or catch her without making her more nervous of me
- also do i get her to a vet before moving her to new cage and so take the opportunity of her being in a carrier to the vet and then move her to new cage?
- its best to take her to the vet now or later when shes more calm?
- would you guys advise in puting a id ring on her and/or microship?

sorry for the huge text and questions

thank you!

Hi there..

I have a baby 'tiel he is about 17 weeks old now.. He didn't eat for three days  when I got him, except for millet spray.
He is now chowing down and drinking but still not trying new foods.

As far as yours being skittish that's to be expected, being in new surroundings and all. Just be patient, talk softly to him..sit by his cage and over him something to eat..i hear tiels like kale lol.

i put millet on the cage but she hasnt touched it yet. i talk to her and her wings start shaking a little bit so i try not to get to close cause she gets to the end of the perch and faces me.

is there a way to see the age? i know in budgies normally the head strips go away and the white of the eyes show up adter 6 months or a year

I don't know if there is a way to determine age. All I know is at least with "grey" 'tiels, a males face/head will turn yellow after the first molt.
