I HOPE what I just saw on my new baby tiel's wings are new flight feathers sprouting??? If so.... that makes me soooo happy!

... if those are new flight feathers growing then he will be able to fly in no time... less than a month!!. Or am I not seeing what I hope I'm seeing?? :(

As in that picture I can see 3 baby new flight feathers starting to grow

Looks like flight feathers to me too.

Awesome, that is great to hear you also think it looks like new flight feathers growing. :D

I don't want to get my hopes up too high in thinking maybe he'll at least be able to fly a little bit in a month... I cannot wait to get out of this padded room! (I padded a spare bedroom with comforters).

Until his wings grow back and he stops dropping like a rock (stupid breeder cut his wings far too short). I am stuck letting him out only the padded room to avoid serious injury (he almost injured himself badly already).... if those are indeed new flight feathers it should come in real fast...

I feel for you. My jet came to me the same way.

I'm eager to see how fast "Coconut's" flight feathers come in... he is almost 4 months old now. My other tiel "Rascal" just grew in some new flight feathers and it's insane how incredibly FAST he grew his flight feathers in! In just literally one week he grew an entire feather out of nowhere! :)

... so I should know really soon if what I'm seeing are legit flight feathers... right now I have a handicapped baby bird until then :(

Looks like new feathers to me too :11: boy oh boy Beeb is behind on his lol. Dusty is already zooming around Wades place like he has been doing it all his life, and now 'Nut is growing his,and they are all younger than BB. C'mon Beeb...get a move-on here!

LOL... ah poor Beebs... when he preens and stretches his wing... you don't see any new flight feathers sprouting yet? That's how I just noticed Coconut's :) I am skeptical at this point on what Coconut's little baby flight feathers will do (he has 3 on right wing and 2 on left wing.. I could be wrong though)... I should know the verdict in a week ;)

I'm not even sure how old he is since breeder didn't know hatch date :( I suspect he hatched in March... which is same month I was born in =) I hope lil' Nut will fly as well as Wade's tiel wihtout killing himself in the beggining :D

Certainly look like new flight feathers to me :D. Brings back memories from back when baby (real name cleo) my cockatiel was young and had new feathers growing in...so clumsy.... now she can fly about 200 meters without stopping (outside on her aviator flight line of coarse). Soon your baby will be taking off like a rocket, turning on a dime and landing as carefully as a paraglider. Goodluck and beat wishes. So exciting. :D :grey:

I can't tell but I sure hope the new feathers are coming in for Coconut! Dusty had a *slight* advantage since I bought him before he even hardly had any feathers and requested that he not be clipped. He was flying around the baby room at the bird shop where he was weaned at least a week before he was old enough to come home. I understand clipping, but that really is a shame that 'nut got such an extreme chop job :(

This is crazy... those feathers are already longer today than the other day... so I think those are indeed new flight feathers!! :D

I will update in a few days... I have a feeling those new flight feathers will soon be touching and then crisscrossing! :)

Except NONE of his other flight feathers are growing yet, so I don't know if a bird who only has 3 flight feathers on each wing can fly?? Is that enough?

Sometimes when he is preening his wings he screams in pain... so there must be some new feathers sprouting there that he bites too hard by mistake. Baby birds are so soft and fluffy though :)

Check out his flight feather progress they growing in real fast!! :D

Already much longer than they were 3 days ago... can't wait to get out of this padded room... feel like I'm in a nut house lol.

EDIT: wow I can see how much blood is in the shaft of the new flight feathers I can imagine if he broke those new feathers he would be in big trouble

Awesome! that certainly was fast. I'm looking at BB's arms right now and there is no sign of any new clothes. Friday he will be 19 weeks old.

I wish I new Coconut's real age... I think he is about 3 1/2 months old... maybe 4 months. Breeder said he doesn't wean them until they are 3 months. Perhaps 'Nut knows he has a job to do right now which is grow them feathers! :)

Except he is ONLY growing 3 flight feathers on right wing and 2 on left... I don't know if that is enough to fly?... take pics of BB when he decides to start sprouting them feathers ;)

It is exciting to see how fast they grow in.

PS: BB (for baby bird) is a cute name... curious what his name will be. :)

Tropical my experience with broken flight feathers is while scarey not really that bad.

Jet used to break 2 or 3 flight feathers a week. I just used pressure to stop bleeding and kept a close eye on him.

My biggest fear was hed break one at night and bleed to death in his cage.

Hes still here.

With coconut if there is ever a problem and you feel the need dont let my experience prevent you from going to a vet. Every bird and situation is different.

Just try not to worry so much.

The shaft of them new flight feathers is a little scary looking :) There is tons of blood in it. I have potato starch... but maybe I should get corn starch... just incase something happens. I'm skeptical though if these new fights feathers will be enough to fly because NONE of his other flight feathers are growing yet... it should at least help him glide safely to the ground rather than dropping like a rock?

Super excited though to see progress happening this soon :D
