So Bacon, our tiel, has gone to a new home. I feel it was best for him. My wife, our daughter, and myself have been working with him for months. When I got him, he wasn't tame. I was aware of that, and I was okay with it. I figured with their loving little personalities, he wouldn't take too much to tame down. We could get him out of his house, and he would play on a stand with a few of the budgies just fine, but he never seemed fond of any of us. He would not let us touch him, and sometimes even asking for a step up would earn a bite.
Enter our daughter's friend. He lives across the street with his grandmother, who we are good friends with. He reached in Bacon's cage and grabbed him. He didn't ask for a step-up, he just scooped him up. Bacon climbed right on his shoulder and would step-up for him right off his shoulder with no bite. He even let him pet him, which is something we could never do. I looked at his grandmother and said he has just done more with him in 5 minutes than we have been able to do with him in 9 months.
She agreed to let him have him. I think it was just a case of none of us being "his person". I figure they have had bird before, mostly tiels, so they know how to care for them. Plus, they are just across the street and I know if they ever have any problems, I'll hear about it. I am just glad that he seems to have found his person. I love my birds, but I want whatever is going to make them happiest, even if it's not with us.
