human friendships, that is .... birdship is there. I had a friend today cancel the last minute even though we planned it over the weekend and set a time, etc. I was just thinking recently anyway though how I have Baby and how he's the greatest best friend. I have a dog and cat but Baby always has been. He's outlived numerous cats and dogs in the house. I've had soon to be 14 years of a great bond and friendship and many trials and errors. Thankfully more trials and journeys than error.

He's still spunky and a very hardy bird surprisingly. Even though his routine and behavior has changed over the years (from maturity and age), to switching from commercial seed the first 10 years to pellets and good quality seed (he's always had a variety of food...still trying veggies).I still have his routine down and he's been very gracious and forgiving through most things. It is also interesting to witness the changes through many things including friends and myself, in those 14 years as well. But, Baby has always been by my side through it all. The song in the commercial with the dogs "you're my buddy, my pal" reminds me of him.

I know what you mean. Rascal was my best friend and only friend for that matter... until I got Coconut. Now I have 2 best friends. I'm becoming popular LOL

I'm a bit of a loner and a homebody. I would MUCH rather hang out and spend time with Rascal and Coconut (my feathered friends) than humans. I know I'm a weirdo, can't help it. My mother says I was dropped on the head a lot as a baby. Birdships for the win! :D

And a Normal Grey Cockatiel named BB who came home with me on 5/20/2016.
I have had Amy for almost 27 years now. In those years I have lost my mom,my oldest brother, and a couple very close friends.
But she is always there for me. I come home from work early in the morning,to hear very softly and quietly "hello?...hello"? She knows its me.

Just by her antics, and her "talking",she has gotten me out of some very bad depression. She knows when I'm hurting and during those times, she seems to be even sweeter than normal. I try to reward her with rides in the car ,she loves rides..and outside.

now that we have BB, there isn't a dull moment here lol.

Yes, "Birdship" is an awesome thing! :D

RIP Gandalf and Big Bird, you are missed.
Birdship is all about unconditional bonding and love! While birds can be moody - very moody at times - they are always there! The bond can be closer than that of other animal companions because their lifespans can be incredibly long.

smbrds, thanks for this thread!

Tropical, I adore you and your 'tiels!

Owl...I would suggest a separate thread, and I bet you get lots of help.

Amy, isn't it amazing to spend DECADES with a bird? Only ONE human friendship has lasted that long...

Scott you are right!

I have shared these pictures before... please forgive me if I am proud of them and can't resist repeating.
This is the Rickeybird with me, in 1985 and then 2016.

I love this place! Like the web-tag says... it's a community.

Ya tell me about it... I would love to have my body covered in feathers and be forever youthful ;)

They have feathers around their eyes... even if they had crows feet it would cover that.. it's impossible for them to get crows feet/wrinkles... since they don't squint or have ability to make the facial movements needed to create wrinkles like humans. Botox is my other best friend... could not live without it!!

... to make matter worse I'm a thin skinned female albino. I have no melanin... aging is not fun especially if you are female! :02: :57:

You're right about the crowsfeet... I didn't think of that.

I'm too chicken to do Botox! :39:

Ooooooh, you DO have a challenge. I'm pale and redhaired... light from the puter screen gives me freckles. :09:

I am pretty jealous of your HAIR, though!!!!!! :D

Don't be envious of my hair... I have EXTREMELY thin and extremely fine hair and androgenic alopecia. :( My aunt is bald.. my mother is going bald... trust me... I am jealous of your hair hehe ;)

I always wished I was black or indian... would love to have dark melanin rich skin that defies aging. When I went to Jamaica last year and I saw 70 year old women there who looked like they were only 40 years old... they didn't even know what Botox is!! it was pretty depressing LOL

... but at least my feathered friends love me either way... balding and wrinkled;)
