I've now caught Coconut mating with the perch a few times... he's still a BABY. Isn't he too young to be doing this? He's less than 5 months old!!

Unfortunately, it looks like I might have to remove the mirrors??? Because he seems to have fallen in love with himself a little "too much". He's ONLY doing this in front of the mirror! He's not excessively in front of the mirror or anything though... what am I supposed to do here

He LOVES singing in front of the mirror... I would feel bad removing it :( It looks like I'm going to have to remove the mirrors because now he's going at it again!!!

EDIT: Rascal is 4 years old and has NEVER done this.

Well, the cockatiel folks will know for sure, but... I think that sort of "practice" often happens at 6 months or so, even though actual maturity is a ways off... I think at around a year?
MAN! He's got the moves like Jagger!

LOL....he's got moves that for sure.

Rascal has NEVER done what Coconut is doing... not ever. I know this because Rascal is ALWAYS with me. I work from home and all he ever does is SLEEP.

OMG... Coconut is doing it again!!! I feel like I should remove the mirror from his cage?? OMG This is really sad because he LOVES singing to his reflection but I don't want to encourage hormonal behavior.

Re: OMG! Coconut is getting "frisky"... he's a baby isn't he too young to be doing th

This is sad... I just covered one of the mirrors by taping a piece of paper on it because Coconut was really getting out of hand. There are 2 mirrors in the cage... I covered the one he was using to get frisky. HOPING he will leave the other mirror alone!!

EDIT: Now he is pacing back and forth in front of the covered mirror wondering where his "lover" went. Mirror still there but NO reflection since I covered it with paper LOL He then gave up and walked away to go do something else thank goodness... so covering the mirror worked :p So far he is fine with the other uncovered mirror... so far...

Edit: omg now he's trying to serenade poor Rascal who is just running away. Baby Coconut needs to get neutered!

I know where he's at!

LOL. Hopefully Coconut will get it out of his system so maybe one day he might be able to get that mirror back but I'm not overly optimistic. Covering that one mirror fixed it completely he's no longer getting frisky now that his "lover" (reflection) is no longer there :p

Sounds like a teenage boy to me! Seems boys of all species go a little crazy that way around that time.

FYI, for many birds, a mirror is a real no no!

Ya I know... Rascal doesn't care about mirrors at all... but Coconut just might have to do without a mirror which is sad since he loves singing to mirrors :(

I never even had mirrors for Rascal because he really doesn't care about mirrors in the least bit... for him a mirror is like staring at a blank wall.

Maybe this is just a phase he is going through. What if you move the mirror around in his cage and/or limit the amount of time he has with it each day. He was really enjoying himself, that's for sure.

My little conure was doing somthing like this to my head today. He is only almost 6 months old. I thought he was too young too. Maybe it is the weather.

Hi I would remove the mirrors all together. Put in new challenging and interesting toys to head off this behaviour. I think if it continues it becomes more habitual and who wants that 'moves like Jagger' or not? He probably is a little young re hormones but this is instinctive behaviour given the right conditions.

He has a totally different personality to Rascal (bless him) so you will have to treat him differently. More activity, more tricks, possible more attention than Rascal. Keep him busy in a different way.

I certainly don't want to encourage hormonal behavior and have a bird constantly doing "moves like Jagger"! I can image if my aunt saw him doing that and I would have to explain to her what he is doing... OMG LOL

... thankfully he hasn't done it at all ever since I covered that one mirror.... maybe I can wait and see if he does it again? For some odd reason this other remaining mirror doesn't have the same effect on him because it's placed further away from the perch. He really enjoys singing when he sees his reflection I feel bad to remove it but if he does the "Jagger moves" again I will remove this final mirror as well.

Rascal and Coconut... are apple to oranges LOL Rascal sleeps ALL THE TIME whereas Coconut has ants in his pants... fire ants! Coconut is a lot of fun though he is awesome :D

I took Rascal to Home Depot today so I had to put the flightsuit on him and boy did Coconut start trying to serenade Rascal LOL

Coconut LOVES it when Rascal is wearing his flightsuit. Guess he thinks Rascal looks super hot in it haha :p

I'll have to get that on video. I can't wait to be able to bring Coconut places with me.... man is he going to be nuts he's never seen the real world unlike Rascal who is a traveling jet setter ;)

My mum had a budgie that did it whilst we were eating dinner! He carried all throughout his life! :(

If he cannot get too close to the mirror it may help, just make sure he cannot hang onto something else to aid his 'jagger moves' LOL Good luck. :)

LOL.... that budgie might be related to Mr. Coconut ;)

The remaining mirror is indeed in a spot where he cannot get right up against it unlike the mirror I covered and is also farther away where he can't get to it. So this remaining mirror so far hasn't been a problem... he sings to it every now and then but then goes off to do other things like playing with toys or fighting with his brother hehe :)

Rascal on the other hand NEVER EVER sings to mirrors he couldn't care less, go figure.
