I've had my Jazz for like 2-3 months. She likes sunflower seeds but drops them most of the time. In fact, she drops everything.

She wont eat the yogurt covered sunflower seeds or millet. She won't eat any of the dried fruit/vegetable/nut treats you get at petco. She doesn't seem to like carrots or celery I cut up and put in her bowl. She eats her food just fine mostly pellets and some seeds) but I would like to be able to give her treats when she's a good girl (which is ALL the time) but I can't seem to find a good treat for her.

I'd appreciate any suggestions, maybe there is something I haven't thought of that I can try that is both easy for her to eat quickly and of course be satisfying to her.

Goofy (YNA), Oscar (Goffin 'too). Foster bird Betty (RLA). RIP Cookie, 1991-2016 ('tiel), Leo (Sengal), Charlotte (scarlet macaw). Grand-birds: Liam (budgie), Donovan (lovebird), RIP Angelo (budgie)
Keep offering different things. You never know what she's going to go crazy for. For example, my cockatoo isn't particularly food motivated. He's generally very bored with most foods and can't be enticed with anything edible, except brussel sprouts. He could care less about seeds, nuts, cheese, peanut butter, fruit, and anything else birds usually go ga ga over. But brussel sprouts? He'd snake out my bathroom plumbing for a bit of brussel sprout.

Does your Tiel try to eat by holding the seed or whatever in it's foot?
None of my Tiels ate this way until I got Cheeky. He would eat by holding stuff in his foot.
My other Tiels try to imitate him but drop a stuff a lot of the time.

A cockatiel that doesn't like millet?? I've found that hiding veggies in food can work - maybe baking a small bird bread/muffin. Try different ways to offer veggies like grating/shredding in rice/pasta. I know Baby loves popcorn as a treat sometimes!

No she does not use her feet as hands. I'm hoping since I got my sunnie she would mimic him. we shall see if she picks it up (with her feet... pun intended!)

My tiels love spray millet, sunflower seeds, but most of all, crackers! They'll also drop lots of things but luckily when it comes to crackers, I get to hold onto it as they chomp away.

My tiel Sam loved corn on the cob. Also anything on my plate if she had the opportunity. I have three parrots and buy organic corn on the cob, they love it too. On Sunday Husband and I went to a Chinese restaurant. When they bring the check they bring half an orange per person on a tray. It's in the rine, I never eat mine, I take it home and give the sliced pieces to my parrots. They love it. There is so much you can feed them but be sure to check out the food to see if it's safe. There are foods that will hurt them like avocado, onion, apple seeds, etc. Keep a list of harmful foods close.

I know it's not healthy but my tiels all like goldfish crackers (cheddar cheese flavor).
I have to break them up with my fingers and not give them whole. A whole cracker they pick up with their foot and drop it.

I think most of us are privately guilty I don't know about you but I feel I must be perfect. I make Mac and cheese, and popcorn to share. It's not daily, but it is a treat that my babies love.

Baby loves munching on crackers. It's cute watching him eat it because he'll break off bigger pieces than him and hold it in his foot. He loves whole wheat crackers but I do give him unsalted saltine crackers at times. Just yesterday I had some pizza and gave him some of the crust.

I think Tracy nailed it here! I have found, that with BB ( he is not quite 1.5 yrs old,and he will have been here for a year come May) He will RARELY eat from his nummy bowl.HOWEVER..if I am sitting here at my 'puter, and I have a bowl,or plate.of ANYTHING,sitting on my desk..he will climb down my arm and hop onto the desk, and eat from my plate or bowl!
They are flock birds ( they like to eat with their moms and dads, brothers and sister, cousins and aunts and uncles )
So...the next time you want him to eat something...get a plate of it yourself, and let him watch YOU eat...make sure you say YUMMMM...oh boy, this is tasty!
BB loves to chow on smashed taters and corn nibs..he will sample broccoli and a piece of carrot..or a smidgen of chicken meat:eek:
I have to be real careful though...at times I have had a spoonful or two of gravy with the taters and corn..and in a blink of an eye he will walk/run through the taters and gravy and get back on my arm/shoulder before I even see it coming :(

Bailey is going on 4 months. When we got him at 12 weeks I offered him everthing we had for dinner. In the morning I gave him a chop besides organic kale, broccoli and apple. I put the food on a plate on the table and sat down as if I was going to eat it to get him started. Now I just have to set a plate out and he thinks it's his! It's so funny. The seed/pellet mix made up for cockatiels by the aviary I got him from. He took first to millet I attached to the side of the cage. So it was partly toy and partly food. Here he is with a bowl of home made chicken noodle soup.

I don't know what he likes more than anything else just yet. So far he likes certain things really well at first and then not so much the next time. Like cheerios.
We're still on trial and error with treats.

He is so cute. I love watching the way tiels eat. They LOVE to eat with you and WANT what you have that they need their own little plates! Wish I introduced veggies to Baby at 12 weeks but he has been eating grated carrots in rice or I sprinkle some parsley on his whole wheat spaghetti. I switched to pasta actually made out of some veggies. He "tongues" some veggies so its a start. All in all he eats well and good quality seed/pellets. What I eat he also has a few bites and then onto his own food he goes. He just wants to eat with me.:grey:

I'm trying to make him some chop and see how that goes. But he's doing okay with some carrot in his rice.

Baby loves cereal though have to be watch for the iron. He loves cheerios like Bailey too and loves to "shred" the unfrosted shredded wheats. He also loves toast in the morning or snack. Sometimes what they haven't had in awhile they go crazy for once they do.
