We went for an outing! Jazz wore her harness for the first time. She did wonderfully.

In addition, today is peanuts 1 week-a-versary with us!

Super cool! Love the pics :D

Jazz is indeed doing very well for her first time wearing the harness! Such gorgeous colors on Peanut (Peanut's coloring matches Jazz's orange cheeks!... it makes them match LOL)... is Peanut flighted? How do you keep him from flying away when out and about? I bet you have a lot of people stopping you to admire both of them!

I hope you got a harness on your Sunnie, too. Please dont be one of thes people who say, Oh dont worry, he/she is clipped', only to post a week later that someone flew away. Nice looking fids BTW.

We live in Red Tail Hawk central with at least four families that actively work our area year around and train their young in high speed turns around the Southeast corner of our home during early mid-Summer.

So assure that you double check whether they have re-populated your area!

Oh yea I get a lot of stares and ooooos and ahhhhhhs. Some people get in my bubble and it makes me nervous but I feel if the birds have to be outside their comfort zone it's only fair that I do too! Thank you for the nice compliments.

I do not have a harness for peanut yet, it's only been a week and he is still very skiddish so I'm afraid to start harness training just yet. He is clipped (got clipped on Monday) but doesn't ever EVER leave my shoulder. Neither does jazz. They both stay very attached to me and if it's windy I hold them till we get in the car. In fact, the only way I could get peanut to settle down when I first picked him up was to let him stand on my shoulder. So I guess that's his comfort zone lol.

Your bird, your rules. But I tell you my friend, clipped parrots can and do fly away, and not becasue they want to sometimes. Peanut is so beautiful, it would be a shame. I learned the hard way many many years ago. 'Nuf said.

Well they def can't fly. Jazz tends to go straight up and backwards, often breaking her tail feathers. Peanut goes straight down. They both always walk right back up asking for my hand to step up on so they can go right back to my shoulder. I do get worried around the dogs people bring into Petco I saw one licking his lips at the birds. One fast move and both birds may scare and fall to the floor where all the dangers are. I'll get him a harness once I feel hes ready. Right now I'm working on getting him to accept me to hold him in various ways, but he's very skiddish of my hands, making me think his prior owners may have been rough with him.

They can grow in feathers lightning fast and even when they LOOK like they cannot fly (because their flight feathers are not long at all)... they can still easily take off one day in a wind gust or if they get spooked.

I would never risk taking any domestic bird outside without a harness clipped or not it's asking for a disaster. Rascal can fly quite well even when clipped! It's simply not worth the risk.

Isn't it fun to take them out? My Amazon Buddy is an attention pig. He hates his harness but when he sees people he's on and talking to everyone, harness forgotten. He could be a Walmart door greater. I brought Venus with me to Lowes to buy new blinds because we had to replace the blinds she chewed up. My mistake, I didn't open them so she made her own peep hole. I had one lady say she had never seen a bird on a leash but the kids love it and I love to share about birds with them.

Here is Buddy in Petsmart to get a toy. He was loud and proud, everyone got a "HELLO!" from him.

love to see the birdies out shopping!

do any of you let them pick out a toy? my dog does I didnt know if the birds do or not

I do. It's fun watching them pick. We don't do it often because of the cost, we do mostly homemade toys or alphabet blocks from Dollar Tree. They turn the blocks into toothpicks.

I talk to them as if I'm allowing them to pick out their own toy but they are usually too distracted so I pick one out for them and say that they picked it out lol
