I'm going nuts because I can't find a tropical themed ceiling fan which I like.... this is really Rascal and 'Nut's new condo. I needed to get a condo that has a balcony for my tiels so technically this thread is on topic to this forum? haha ;)

I'm trying to create a tropical theme in entire condo... floors will be a more "MODERN" cool toned grayish color (rather than the warmer reddish coloring of many wood floors) and bath/kitchen cabinets will be white... problem I'm having is that all the fans have blades with warm tones to it which totally clashes with the flooring and everything else that will be put into my condo and looks bad!!

Which of the below fan blades do you think is best? I don't like any of them!! ... because I need the fan blades to be ashy (cool toned) not warmish :26:

See what I mean? It clashes! Does not match nicely at all...

I tried that with one of the blades and kind of ruined it... oops!

It is not real wood but cheap plastic. I used spray paint intended for plastic and I don't know what I did wrong and it looks so bad/fake... it took away all the shaded effects which gave it a fake spray painted look. I guess I will try to paint the blade furthest to the left because that one looks more interesting?

... but what makes it look interesting is the shading... if I spray paint it that shading will go away??? :( All of the blades have shading which is what makes it look nicer...

Hhhmm... what about getting a local artisan to make simple wooden blades in the colors you like?

Or wait a second... can I stain plastic? ... because if I stained them the shading would not disappear??

I'm too poor for that :( This fan was $150... I can't afford more than that :17:

In that case I would go with the darkest blades you can get. Sometimes you see that; light cool colors with dark warm colors, especially if you intend to incorporate a lot of green. If you include actual stone devote it should help with the blending because stone and wood can both be part of a cohesive outdoor theme.

I think you're right... here is the flooring that will be used along with the colorful backsplash and sandy colored quartz counter tops... so I should spray paint the heck out of one of the blades into an ashy toned dark color?... I really wanted lighter colored ashy toned blades... I'm afraid to ruin another blade with spray paint  I think darker blades would indeed match more...

Shoot! Just noticed below photo is not accurate... photo editor it made floors look warmer than they are... below floor is just as ashy cool toned as in first post...

Walls in condo are green colored and backsplash also has green so there will be lots of green :)

You know, it occurs to me that a lot of my friends who own their homes (we currently rent, but hope to buy next year) join all sorts of interior decor and diy Facebook pages filled with people who know all sorts of tricks and hacks to get the look you want; maybe join those and get input? I certainly want to see your finished product of course! And maybe some of our more decor savvy members will comment. I wish I had good advice, but I'm afraid this is way outside my experience and expertise.

I'm so paranoid about ceiling fans. And I know it would be a matter of time until I forgot, left it on, and allowed the Rb to "interact" with it.
You'll make the right call. Your new place... I mean THEIR new place... is beautiful!

I know what you mean about the fans! :57: If I didn't live alone I would never allow any ceiling fan to be installed that's for sure. I actually never even use ceiling fans anymore... I just think it looks nice to have the source of light in the room coming from a ceiling fan... fan is more for decoration than anything else haha. Only time I used to actually use ceiling fans was at night when I am sleeping in bed but ever since my tiels started sleeping in same room with me at night I stopped using the ceiling fan completely as I didn't want them to get the cold draft wind from the fan.

I get cold very easily so I have never used ceiling fans during the daytime at all... I also have super severe dry eye (it is awful!!) and the fan wind dries out my eyeballs too much!

Did I forget to mention I have NO friends and nobody ever visits? I am not making this up either! LOL... I am a loner to say the least :)

I just ordered these blades which are hopefully more ashy toned and still look tropical? I ordered some fans and the blades were beaten up, cracked and coloring rubbed off on edges so those go back for refund!

IMHO ceiling fans and birds don't play well together.

Yes indeed certainly not... please see one of my prior posts above... ceiling fans are for decoration and lighting only. I also live alone and always will... I would rather die than ever live with anyone other than my birds... no thanks to that! Ceiling fans in my home are never actually used. To me a room without a ceiling fan looks odd... especially in Florida.

I literally never have visitors.... other than the hundreds of cockroaches in the prior house I lived in temporarily for 5 months before finding this condo. This was my mom's fault... she was messy and had cardboard boxes everywhere which roaches love!

I do NOT miss the roaches. Thank gawd I have not seen a single roach in this condo.

PS: When I have the fans installed I will make it so that you cannot even turn the blades on because I will leave the pull string for the blades far too short to reach :)

Most fans have an ultra slow setting, and you can set that with the pull chain, and when you turn the fan on with the switch it only goes dead slow. You can paint anything including plastic if you prime it well. And maybe a wash of light paint, brushed on and wiped off a dark blade or dark paint brushed on and wiped off a light blade could give you the look you want. What color is your ceiling? How would it look to have the fan blades the same color as the ceiling so they don't stand out, with some subtle shading or highlighting to being out detail?

Great! That would be awesome if I can have that setting adjusted like that. I know how to install ceiling fans myself but my handyman is going to be installing it for me. I will ask him to set it at that ultra low setting if possible.

My walls are green as in below pic and my walls are bright white (I had popcorn removed with knockdown applied).

I might end up making the blades white but kind of prefer the wooodish look since it feels more tropical to me... not sure yet :)

Yay!!! I finally found a fan that I like and matches the coloring of the floors I will be installing. It's not perfect but it matches a lot nicer than the other ones :D

I must also again emphasize this fan will NEVER actually be used other than to supply light and decoration! :57:
