x2 Male Cockatiels (Born Aug 2016)
Sunny - younger, placid & dominant
Sky - Older, trouble, jealous & chewer

Previously had a male Budgie that lived for 12 years.
So my 2 male tiels are about 9 months old right now and it's getting colder for winter.

Sky has recently started picking fights sometimes at night, chasing Sunny around the cage. Wings up, beak open.

I take Sunny out and leave Sky in the cage so they stop it but then Sky starts contact calling. I'll put Sunny back after a little bit but then Sky tries again.

I'm not sure what's starting the fights, if there is something specific or do I just need to separate them?

They're not too bad out of the cage, it's Sky being jealous when I pat them both or sees me patting Sunny - He'll bite Sunny's foot but I don't think it's that hard but I try to stop him from trying or he'll look like he's going to preen Sunny's face but then pull out a cheek feather (Again I try to stop him).

Sky is the like annoying older sibling, they love/hate each other and Sunny is very placid compared to Sky who is just mischief. They don't like being separated because they just start calling for each other.

I will give you my best try.

Make sure your cage is large enough. This way they don't have to be too close to each other.

Have two seed/food holders not too close to each other. When one bird eats it makes the other one want to eat also. Giving them separate places to eat will keep conflict down.

Enough perches so they can perch separately.
hope this helps

They're in a large cage already (Unless it needs to be bigger?)

They have 2 food dishes at each end of the cage

There is a few perches - I could try to move them around to make it seem like "a new cage"

Are you positive they are two males?

Yes, the breeder did the DNA test before you bought them. I don't want a female tiel because of possibly getting egg bound and I don't want to have baby tiels because I wouldn't know what to do and I'd be sad selling them etc lol.

My recommendation is split them up into two separate cages! That way they each have their own safe place to sleep, eat, and play, and also out of the cage they can interact.

Two Cockatiels: Rascal (Geraldine) and his baby brother named Coconut!
Mt 2 tiels HATE each other... I mean they really hate each other. They share the same cage with no problems... eventually they work out who the dominant one is.

'Nut is definitely the dominant one and Rascal knows this. They simply keep their distance form each other and all is good. Sometimes they get into beak fights but not often at all anymore... but if 'Nut is on the kitchen table and I place Rascal on it 'Nut will chase Rascal off the table! 'Nut has claimed the kitchen table as his LOL

Your tiels are babies... give them a chance to work out their own "system".
