As you guys know my neighbor and I rescued an IRN a week ago who is being kept at my neighbor's just INCASE he MIGHT have something contagious and I have been immediately removing my clothes the second I get home (throwing clothes into the wash and disinfecting my cell phone) and showering washing my hair etc the second I get home. I have to do this at least THREE times a day (because I also have to shower before I leave the gym!!!!) having to shower this often is a huge pain!

Would it be good enough for me to simply change my clothes and wash my hands and use a wet wipe on my arms and legs instead of having to shower every time after I visit the IRN every single time???

I have reported this lost parrot all over the place within 30 mile radius, reported him to animal care and control, to shelters, to several avian vets, craigslist, facebook, and TONS of sites like 911 parrot alert, parrot alert, parrot hotline, NEXTDOOR bla bla bla (TONS more places than what I am mentioning here not to mention the BIG street signs I have all over the place which the city is forcing me to remove tonight) the real owner is NOT BOTHERING to even post a SINGE post online (a shelter who helped me search confirmed this!!). If real owner has language barrier he could find someone who speaks english for heck's sake... this isn't a third world country where it's difficult to find someone who speaks english! If the real owner is out of town that is not an excuse either.

I am 99% positive real owner not going to be found at least not anytime soon and having to constantly shower like this is driving me insane LOL I am helping neighbor walk her dog because the lady is at work all day long (dog lives in same condo as the IRN... well kind of... it's her daughter's dog but since daughter does not take care of it she often keeps her daughter's dog in her condo) therefore I am seeing the IRN more than just once a day and then I always have to shower after I am near the IRN... it's driving me crazy  :p

LOL... that would certainly be a lot more convenient! The main issue I'm having is that my condo is a massive gut job and the bathroom (shower stall etc) are DISGUSTING so it's quite miserable each time I have to shower LOL

The condo I just moved into 3 months ago is in REALLY bad shape and everything needs to get gutted. I feel sooooo GROSS in this condo. Not matter how much you clean it.... it's just gross and I cringe every time I have to take a shower in that nasty bathroom  The tiles etc are crumbling... it's just icky. My other bathroom is NOT usable even if you WANTED to use it and shower you CANNOT because the shower stall in that bathroom has been removed due to mold. Oh well... if it's best to keep showering like a maniac I will but was wondering if it would be OK not to

I REALLY urgently need to renovate this condo... I can't until I get my next commission which looks like it's going to be several more months :(

If you are walking the dog, then that counts as exercise so could save on one shower ie not go to the gym?

Do you want to bring the CAV appointment forward as that is the only thing possibly that will shorten this period I think?

The having to shower a lot is not what is bothering me... it's that I cringe each time I have to use my bathroom LOL it's so gross. I usually LOVE taking showers but not in my bathroom. I don't even dare use my shower stall barefoot because the tile floor is all crack/crumbling and disgusting!! So I wear flipflops when I shower at home  I do this when I shower at the gym too but for different reasons... I don't want foot fungus.
It's ok I'll shower each time just to be on safe side... but from my understanding even if the vet bill came back all clean there are many things that cannot be tested for so even if vet test came back clean my tiels would still be at risk from undetected "stuff"???

Hey Juliet? Ever think maybe the previous owner just said "F*** it..I don't want this bird anymore" and just let him loose?? I've been to Florida many times and have seen flocks of Ring necks and Quackers living in large families and thriving.
It would be very sad and heart breaking, after you described how friendly this little guy is...and it looks like he has been well cared for..

And your irresponsible neighbor..maybe a Ring Neck will be your GCC you've been wanting! :p

You are soooooo right unfortunately. I spoke to more than one shelter and they said this happens a LOT more often than you think! Even to cute affectionate ones... people just rid of them, it's crazy! :(

Sadly, I'm beginning to realize I cannot keep this IRN because at this time in my life I MUST focus on fixing my awful financial situation etc and getting my life together so having 3 birds right now is too much to handle. I also don't want to spend every second worrying constantly about the IRN harming my tiels. I'm mostly concerned about 'Nut because 'Nut is aggressive towards his brother. 'Nut has no problem charging at Rascal and growling at him until Rascal literally falls off the table LOL

I hate to imagine what an IRN would do to him because 'Nut has some serious balls. Not only that... IRN can easily bite my tiels foot off if one of my tiels lands on his cage.

I'm not comfortable with the whole thing at all especially since I just got home from the bird safari shop where I bought Rascal from and had his nails filed (he gets this done every 3 months there)... the bird lady there told me she thinks it''s a very bad idea for me to keep the IRN because of my tiels :(

Of course I see you have a tiel and a larger parrot... yet you are doing great and have no such issues when both birds are out of the cage? ... but I heard IRNs can be especially "aggressive"... is your larger parrot more mellow in that sense than a IRN?

I don't know what to do :( All I know is that IRN needs a REALLY good home.

Amy is one-of-a-kind Amazon indeed. I think it is greatly due to her up-bringing ( patting myself on the back ). She was very young when she came to live with my family and Smokey was here,so she has been accustomed to another bird being here from very early on.

Actually,it was for Amys' well being, that I first got Jonesy, the Goffin 'too and then BB. Amy was SERIOUSLY depressed being the only bird, and it depressed me seeing her so sad, plus I have always had two fids,so it was a no brainer on getting another.
I was seriously thinking/looking at another Timneh AG,a baby, but thanks to this forum,( and YOU!;))and after reading/researching Cockatiels I kind of came to the conclusion that one would fit in just fine, after all,Amy likes any other fid really, and it has worked out well.

On the Ring Neck part of the forum, there is a young lady in the UK LOOKING for a ringneck! and having problems finding the right one! I was thinking of Romeo..it would have been a perfect opportunity-...if she didn't live so far away lol

I doubt very much the little guy was dumped, he really seems to be much too socialized! With the storm, most likely the original paronts have given up, or may still be out of state in the evacuation group!

There was no sight of any storm when we found him this was 3 weeks ago. There was no storm. People dump birds all the time. I learned a lot after speaking to shelters.

I am in Wyoming. almost 2k miles away lol. I was in FL a couple weeks ago, my best friend just moved to Melbourne and I hear that's really close to you? I wonder how much trouble it would be to get a bird on a plane to Denver and I would pick up and bring home?
