Hi everybody!

This is sort of an update on this previous thread - http://www.parrotforums.com/cockatiels/72774-mumbling-self.html

Iggy has become significantly more confident in the past week or so, and has started the "mumbling" in front of me now. I wanted to see what you guys think.

I think she's saying "pretty bird/girl", "whatcha doing?" and "love you".

Here's a little compilation of her attempts.

Amy a Blue Front 'Zon
Jonesy a Goffins 'Too who had to be rehomed :-(

And a Normal Grey Cockatiel named BB who came home with me on 5/20/2016.
Sorry lol...I listened a couple times and I couldn't really figure out what Iggy was trying to say. Just keep at it. I know males are suppose to be better talkers, and it didn't take long at all for BB to start. Now after close to two years with Amy and I he says a handful of words/phrases and there is no mistake in what he is saying.
Like I mentioned, keep at her. It does sound like she is trying ;)
I'm not going to let BB see her video however...he has been "in the mood" for some time and with a cutie like Igg...well...we wont go there

She's definitely hard to understand. She's gotten a bit clearer though in the past week! My family has joined in on encouraging her with the phrases we think she's saying, and I think it's helped her confidence. (She wouldn't try to talk with anyone in the room before)

It would be awesome if Iggy became clear like that, but I'm just happy she's trying.

Oh dear, Iggy is just getting over a hormonal period, we don't need that lmao

Males are clearer talkers than females, but cockatiels are just not clear in general. But words can be heard when they talk, but not very clearly. My female lovebird can talk, she says "Pretty bird" but lovebirds are even worse than cockatiels when it comes to clear speech so I normally caption the videos.

I'm sure I heard her say "Whatcha doing" near the beginning of the video, but I could be wrong.

Yeah, they're not the best. Boy do they try though. I was going to caption it, but I wanted to make sure I wasn't just hearing things and other people could hear them too haha

I'm not the only one, awesome!!

This girl is definitely chatting!

I was a doubter, butttttt... yeah, she's talking.

I heard the "pretty bird/girl" at once. The others I needed help with.

Well, there ya have it: a talking female 'tiel.

AND adorable. Lucky you!

Berry literally makes the same two noises on repeat: "weeeeep!" and "screeetch!" and that's it haha. It's nice to see a fellow female 'tiel learning to talk!

Does Iggy seem as if she is considering whistling? Do you whistle around her? If not, I'd love to see you start. Do any of y'all's female 'tiels whistle, or is that in the same 'bag' as talking?
Reeb, your girl is speaking volumes with those two cute "words".
Ziel, don't you dare go ANYWHERE. I am really fascinated with your little orator.

Iggy hasn't made any whistling noises, no. Unfortunately nobody I know can whistle, otherwise I would try! Personally I'd assume whistling is probably about the same as talking.

I'm excited to hear about someone else with a talking female!

I'm not going anywhere, I frequent the forum haha. Feel free to message me or whatever any time!

I heard pretty bird clear as day and love you and maybe poopy???

Female parrotlets aren’t supposed to talk either, but I didn’t know that and I guess Bumble didn’t either. But it’s similar-she only says a few words and they aren’t very clear.

Here’s to birds and females of all species who do what they’re not supposed to!

The Rickeybird can't whistle either... he does it like a word... "Rit-Roo!"

I do know that even cockatiels that can't/don't talk often still whistle.
What does your girl think of this?

Ducky doesn’t talk or whistle, and he’s a male. All birds are different. Some decide to talk, others don’t. What matters is that you love your bird for who they are

Nothing from mine. She's never really responded to other birds on videos... however my budgie loves it and it got my other tiel Abby's attention. (Starting to think she's male aaaa help)

You're so lucky. ;)

Neither of my tiels speak or have tried to speak for that matter nor have I ever tried to get them speak for me.

Like others have said, keep encouraging her and I'm sure you're going to get more out of her.

I feel like it. [emoji178]

The thing is, I was never trying to get her to speak. It just happened suddenly.

I'm doing my best, my entire family is in on encouraging her now, and I think it's helping her confidence.
