...we're talking about our tiels now...so lets get into some "tielizems" lol.

Me,being a first time cockatiel parront and reading stuff from other parronts have noticed things.

The heart-shaped-arms-out thing..makes me laugh coz I never had a birdie who did that.
When he does a walkabout in the living room when he first comes out of his house,he walks around "picking" at imaginary things,or when he is on the kitchen table he'll do that too.
When he sings his songs to me,he'll sit on my shoulder, his beak right against my cheek, centimeters from my ear and sing AS LOUD AS HE CAN every song he knows. I turn my head and coz he is so close to me,his little face looks so funny, then he'll pick at my eyebrows or beard or mustache. Being so close,he looks a little distorted I my vision and looks even cuter then usual

He YELLS for me as soon as I'm out of his sight!
When Amy makes a loud 'zon noise,it spooks him to fly and he is clueless on where he is going or how fast he is going and will land almost anywhere he can get his little talons on.
In or on top of his tidy bowl food bowl he bangs/taps on it.
He has a set of shinny dice hanging in his house. Everytime I put my hand in to get his water bowl,he bangs the dice, pulls on the streamers, flaps his arms madly and chatters away at them.

At times when he is on my shoulder he also does the frantic arm waving always smacking me in the head/face  AND all of a sudden,he'll box with my ear lobe for a second, and that really PMO :mad:

So...tell me what your guy/gal does??

Mr. BB is a character and a ham!

Baby has similar traits too. When we're on the bed watching TV and he's on my shoulder, I'll turn a little and he'll have a "match" with my ear lobe for a second. Then he'll come down my arm and look up at me wanting cuddles.

I know the heart-wings very much. Baby has this "baby bird sign language" that he'll do, where he'll spread his wings out a little, wherever he wants to go. He'll extend his wings out just a little bit as I put him in that direction, usually his cage where he'll go to drink water, eat a little bit and take a nap or get ready for bed.

When I've been gone for a bit/come home from work I'll whistle and then he'll start to whistle until I come in and then he does a chirp greeting that he made up. I'll take him out and he'll do his heart wings, whistling and talking.

When he plays with stuff he will chirp and make birdie grunts. I'll have him on my hand and facing my shelf, he'll do the baby bird language while on my hand and shred old magazines and books.

Sometimes I have him on my head and he'll preen my eyebrows or eye lashes and look cross-eyed at me. When I have my air on and he's on the bed, he'll bring his wings out and rub his head over as if he's taking a bath and enjoying life.

We squeak back and forth when he's tucked in at bedtime, and I might tap on my headboard or dresser and he'll tap on his cage. Then he retreats for the night.

Pearl (♀ Budgie) hatched 15 August 2017
+ an aviary of 16 other budgies! all hatched 2014-2017
Where do I even begin with Berry?

She’ll just be doing her own thing, playing on her gym, softly tweeting whilst looking out the window or just eating, whilst I just work or play video games or watch Netflix nearby, and even though she isn’t on me or demanding my attention, if I go out of her sight (even if it’s to the en suite bathroom in the room) she starts screaming “weeeeeeep” until I reappear. Sometimes she’ll even chase after me and I literally have to sprint to leave the room without her landing on my shoulder or head.

Speaking of sounds, she only really makes 3. “Weep”, “Screetch” and “Scritch”. What’s funny is she makes the latter sound when I am actually giving her scritches, which is pretty cute.

She likes to go behind the tv (I really don’t know why) and when I try to block the access points on either side she’ll stick her head under as if she can fit her comparatively large body underneath this tiny gap. Maybe there’s a whole world I’m missing out on behind there.

When she gets super excited, she will open up her wings and flap madly without flying, and will sometimes even hang upside down on my finger or a perch, and just flap and tweet crazily!

Oh goodness, and she chews absolutely anything and everything. I think her current favourite is my phone case, which is pretty battered from all the bird beaking going on.

Yeah, she’s a bit of a weirdo. But I love her for it.

Great thread, Jim!

I can share what my cockatiel used to do. Suzie passed back in 2011 of kidney disease, but he still lives on in my heart.

Suzie would give me the wolf whistle any time I passed by wearing a towel at my waist. Such a clown!

He had quite the vocabulary, often saying: Hello, baby! Hello darling! Good girl (Yes, we obviously thought he was a she in the beginning. Lol!) Love you! and Night night!

He would wave at me every time I entered the room while saying "Hello, baby! Hello, darling!" And he used two distinctly different types of waves that he learned through observation. One was to left one leg high, toes spread wide, and wave it in an expansive side to side motion. And the other was to raise the leg and open and close his toes like how we would do with our fingers.

Anytime something unexpected or frightening happened, he would make a tongue clucking sound to signal that he was okay, or to attempt to reassure me if I was worried about him. (I treasured that mode of communication from him even more than his talking, because it was not only in context, but it also represented a deeper level of thought than most would attribute to birds. This wasn't just mimicry. This was true communication.

He also had a very distinctive way of communicating his displeasure. If there was a day where work kept me from getting home early enough to spend a significant amount of time with him, (even if my wife spent time with him instead) he would take some of his red dyed pellets and drop them in his water, coloring it blood red. (Not amusing the first time I saw it! Lol!) He'd only use the red, mind you. But on those rare occasions where this would happen two days in a row, he'd drop a deuce into his water. A sign of his utter annoyance and disgust! Hahahaha! And he only did this if I was busy two days in a row. He was definitely sending a message. (Thankfully, I never experienced what might happen after three!)

He was an amazing bird, and I still miss him terribly. Definitely have a soft spot for 'tiels.

BB now makes kissy sounds as I hold him and kiss his face. In the morning he says "hello" to me,or if I'm gone for a spell.
He'll sit on my finger and I'll jiggle him up and down and sideways and he whistles away. As soon as I stop jiggling he stops whistling..when I start up again so does he. Its our little game we play.

His beak is never stopping..yep he'll chew at anything and everything.
He is relentless about wanting to sit on my hand, often banging my fingers as I type,or trying to MATE with my hand!:mad::mad:
As soon as I put him on my shoulder he is going back down my arm to get on my hand!

He talks a bit..hello..Beebers..little boy little boy..BB good boy. wolf whistles to his uncle DJ or uncle Joe..mixes up the andy Griffith/Addams family themes.

Elvis is a lover, he has courted Chrissy, Lucky, Opal, and Skittles.
He struts, heartwings, and sings as loud as he can all day long.
Elvis loves to sit on my shoulder, pull on earrings and necklaces, chew things, bananas, and go outside during the summer.
He gets so excited whenever he finishes chewing something, as if he's proud of himself.
After he ate Zupreem pellets for the first time, he ate every yellow thing he could find, once he ate a banana he never ate the other things again.
Elvis is very picky when it comes to music, he only likes about 5 songs.
He prefers to walk, and he dislikes flying.

Skittles is nippy. She won't bite me hard, but she likes to nip my fingers, ears, and toes.
She has become more aggressive recently, and is very protective of her food dish.
Skittles is a picky eater.
She loves climbing up ladders, and flying around the room.

I don't have much to say about Skittles, I haven't had her as long as I've had Elvis.

Lucky likes to sing to my wife.
He sits on the back of the chair she is sitting in, makes the heart wings and sings his heart out.
Baby however disapproves of this. When the singing starts whatever Baby is doing he stops and flys over.
At that point he forces himself between my wife and Lucky.
I can only guess that he wants the attention to go only to him and not my wife.

I guess most 'teil's like to sing then. BB is almost non-stop with song most of the day. Seem's like first thing in the morning and evening time is his favorite time to do this. He lets loose and can be loud, but it's in song and always puts a huge :D on my face. I love listening to him.
He seem's to be a very happy little guy :)

Ah! I forgot the whistling! Suzie loved playing a whistling game with me where he would start with a simple tune and wait for me to mimic it, then he would sing a slightly longer and more complex tune and wait for me to mimic that. This would go on and on with the length and complexity of the song growing and growing until my inevitable failure to exactly follow the tune he had set.

At that point there would be a long pause, during which he truly seemed to be giving me the side eye, and then he would go back to a short basic version more appropriate for my obviously rookie skills. Lol!

Wild cockatiels are actually well known for their whistling abilities in Australia. I've even heard of a flock known for their ability to accurately mimic the tune of the local school's song just from hearing the children sing it.

I love their little squeaky voices. Baby and I will carry a tune for a bit with whistling too.

I don't use my alarm anymore to wake up because around the same time in the morning, Baby starts whistling. If I don't wake up soon, he starts screaming. Then he'll start whistling and tapping on his cage as I move my foot up and down. He loves to bob his head whenever I bob mine or move up and down.
