So just a little rnadom thing I just found out but I am sure those of you on facebook know of buttons the cockatoo?

I've just been watching a livestream of Buttons and meeting all the other birds in the house. Many Budgies and Tiels all of standard ages you'd expect. But one Tiel they have had for a whopping 36 years! and they still look happy and healthy. Mayhaps our current estimates of lifespans are wildly off. Or that Tiel is like the people we hear of who live to be 115

Just a cool little thing I found

And a Normal Grey Cockatiel named BB who came home with me on 5/20/2016.
Holy crap M'Lord! thirty-what years old? Obviously it is a well cared for,and pampered teil..that truly is amazing. If The Beebs is blessed to live a happy/healthy life for that long, that would put me...ummm...DEAD!  lol.

Thanks for the info!

B&G Macaw, Galah, 5 cockatiels, 50 billion and a half budgies. We breed and do rescue. Too many to list each individual's name and age etc, but they are each individuals and loved dearly.
:D Love hearing about old 'tiels. Reminds me my buddy could have many many years left, God willing. Heck, if he makes it to 36, he isn't even middle aged yet!

That's amazing! Spike is 29 this year, this gives me hope for many more years with him.

Same here Terry.

So happy to know of geriatric tiels. I have a soft spot for them. A local article was posted in 2015 about one turning 31. Here's to birdy wishes of Baby reaching for it!

My tiel is like 1 and a half. I hope he lives FOREVER. I can't believe one has reached 36. Maybe that's not quite right? Seems impossible!

There's at least a few tiels who have made it to 36! I haven't heard of one making it past that, though.... and probably more who've made it to 35.

So I'll say nope, not false! :D

Wow, that’s amazing! Though a lot of it is in their genetics.. Cockatiels, like their close cousins the Toos, are some of the longer lived genuses.

I knew of a tiel who landed on someone’s doorstep (literally) as an adult of unknown age, and it lived an entire life caged and on a seed diet for 24 more years.

Just goes to show that with correct care birds, even as small as a cockatiel can live seriously long and happy lives! Such a lovely story to hear.:yellow1::grey: I wonder if it could also be partially linked to inherited genetic traits?:33:. Thanks so much for sharing that lovely story. :)
