Berry (♀ Cockatiel) hatched June 2017
Opal (♂ Budgie) hatched 13 August 2017
Pearl (♀ Budgie) hatched 15 August 2017
+ an aviary of 16 other budgies! all hatched 2014-2017
So June is Berry's hatch month, and out of interest I decided to weigh her because I haven't done so in a few weeks.

When I last weighed her, she was pretty petite at 88 grams. Now she weighs 98 GRAMS! I had no idea how much she has grown! She's all grown up!

It's crazy how exponential it must have been - she was 10 grams lighter just 6-8 weeks ago. Crazy stuff!

Anyway, silly little thing to share haha.

When you see something everyday change tends to go unnoticed unless you use ways to measure it.
I don't really notice my own birds growing up until I look back at old photos, at which point I think "Wow, quite a change."

Wow...Berry could beat up on my little Beebs!

Last time he was weighed (at his CAV) he was also a petite little boy at 88g's. I REALLY need to get a scale for him and Amy.. Now I'm curious to see if he has put on a few g's himself

From my knowledge, females typically weigh more than males! I've also read that cockatiels can range in weight from 80g all the way up to 125g! So I think your little guy is perfectly healthy!

They just grow up right before our eyes without us noticing, don't they?

My first true bird love was a cockatiel. But over the years (he passed in 2011) it has gotten easy to forget how truly little they are. 10g is a significant weight gain for a 'tiel, but my ekkies easily lose that much overnight... or gain up to twice that much after a good meal. Lol!

I also find it crazy and fascinating how they can put on weight in what feels like overnight!

Our baby was 74 g when she came home to us. The Vet said that she was a little underweight but not enough to worry since she was a baby and that she should start gaining quickly now that she was home with us and didn't have other birds to compete with. He was right. In a week, she'd gotten up to 79 and now she's 82! You can definitely feel the difference in her chest/keel bone.

I totally also understand wanting to share everything and anything that's exciting about our birds on this forum. I can tell my friends or my mom something about Skye but, frankly, they don't get it or care as much as you guys do. I appreciate that they listen but, you know, it's not the same as talking to other Bird People lol.

Yes, BB's CAV said he is well in a "perfect" weight range for a 'teil :)

I'm a total weight geek. I have weight records wayyy back into the 90s (switching methods and tactics to cope with the Rb's whims)! It's such a great way to keep a nonintrusive eye on health and welfare. The latest... range is 228 - 242 grams, mean is 234. See? Pure nerrrrrrrd!
